It looks like Johan Santana found his way to New York, but it wasn’t to join the Yankees.
The former Minnesota Twins ace was traded to the New York Mets in exchange for outfielder Carlos Gomez, pitchers Philip Humber, Deolis Guerra and Kevin Mulvey. The Twins get the Mets’ best farm players while New York gets arguably the best pitcher in the majors, pending a physical and contract extension.
Not a bad price for a two-time Cy Young award winner. Santana joins a staff that includes Pedro Martinez, John Maine, Oliver Perez and Orlando Hernandez, giving the Mets a strong starting rotation and a good replacement to the recently departed Tom Glavine.
This wasn’t the scenario I pictured Santana to be dealt to, but the Mets were the team to give the most up for him. I would have loved to have seen him go to the New York Yankees, but apparently they weren’t willing to give up their top prospects. The Boston Red Sox were also a top candidate for Santana, but their offer wasn’t up to par with what the Mets were willing to offer.

Kevin Youkilis has always been a fan favorite among Boston Red Sox fans, and now he’s going to try to put his name out there in mainstream America by endorsing the energy drink SlumpBuster.
Who knows if this drink will take off and make an impact on the market like those of Monster or Red Bull, but if Youkilis is smart like David Wright of the New York Mets was with Vitamin Water, maybe he should be asked to be paid by given a certain percentage of the company.

First, New York Mets mascot Mr. Met has to deal with his team missing the playoffs after one of the worst collapses in Major League history to the Philadelphia Phillies, but it looks like he’s lost to the Phillies for the second time.
I guess you’ll just have to see this clip from the Conan O’Brien show to see what I’m talking about.

Looks like my prayers have been answered.
I was hoping for at least a wild card berth, but I’ll take a division title any day.
The New York Mets finished off one of the worst collapses in history as they missed the playoffs and the NL East lead after holding a seven game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies dating back to September 12.
Despite holding the top spot in the East for 147 days, the Mets couldn’t make it 148. The Phillies who were eliminated two days before season’s end last year and on the last day in 2005, finally got over the hump. After the Mets fell behind 7-0 in the first inning of an uncharacteristic Tom Glavine start, the Phillies smelled blood and wouldn’t let this opportunity slip out of their fingers for the third straight year.
Now, all I keep thinking about is a possible New York Yankees, Phillies match up. Might as well keep praying. It seems to be working so far.

The second time was the charm, as the New York Mets’ Tom Glavine pitched 6 1-3 innings
to get career win No. 300.
Glavine became the 23rd pitcher in Major League Baseball history to join the 300-win club in the 8-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
The win was only his 57th in a Mets uniform, as the other 243 came when he was with the Atlanta Braves.
