For those of you out there who were dying to know who the answer to, “Who will go No. 1: Oden or Durant?” can now sleep well at night.
The Portland Trailblazers took Greg Oden out of Ohio State with the first overall pick, ending speculation on who the Trailblazers would select No. 1. And as predicted, Kevin Durant out of Texas was snatched up by the Seattle Supersonics with the second pick.
For months, many experts didn’t know who would go first overall. As the draft inched closer though, Oden was seen at the top of most mock draft boards, although both are considered can’t miss prospects.
But like most drafts, there’s always a huge surprise. This time it came from a trade from the Boston Celtics and their fifth pick.
The Celtics traded with the Sonics to grab All-Star Ray Allen for Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West and the No. 5 pick, Jeff Green from Georgetown.
The Celtics hope that by acquiring another prolific scorer to team up with Paul Pierce, it will help propel them back to the playoffs.
