One Fan Sings Farewell to Brett Favre

    Brett Favre

Besides the crazy, stalker-esh doll she has of Brett Favre in her bed, this Green Packer fan comes up with a very unique and creative way of bidding farewell to ol’ number four. Here she sings her little rendition called “The Day that Football Died,” saying good bye one last time. And although at first it’s a bit cringing to listen to, it’s not half bad. Gotta give her some props for the creativity.

Brett Favre is Reportedly Set to Retire

    Brett Favre to retire

When I pulled up numerous sports websites morning, I was a bit taken back, but not shocked at what I was reading.

Brett Favre is going to retire.

Well, as of right now, there hasn’t been a press conference or a formal announcement, but apparently Favre has already told the Green Packers front office and head coach Mike McCarthy of his decision Monday night.

Despite a loss in the NFC title game, Favre’s exit has him leaving at the top of his game, throwing for 4,155 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also finished with a 95.7 rating in 2007 on his way to a Pro Bowl berth. Pretty impressive for a man in his late 30s who, during his 17-year career, would play nearly every snap in the sport’s most demanding position.

For his career he passed for 61,655 yards and 442 touchdowns passes. Both all-time records to go along with his records in consecutive games played and wins. In addition to his numerous pro bowl bids, he also was voted the NFL MVP three times and came away a champion in Super Bowl XXI.

Not bad for a second round draft pick out of Southern Mississippi.

If this is truly Favre’s official retirement, then I’m honored to have witnessed a legend who played with such greatness and passion for the game. The NFL and the fans are going to miss such a great player who always played the game hard and with class every Sunday.

Looks Like it’s a Giants and Patriots Super Bowl

Eli and the New York Giants are off to the Super Bowl!

The third time is the charm.

Just ask New York Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes, who missed two crucial field goals, including the 36-yarder that would have won the game for the Giants at the end of regulation. Tynes finally sealed the win for his team in overtime, splitting the uprights on a 47-yard field goal after a Corey Webster interception.

The Giants and Green Bay Packers game was everything you could ask for in a hard fought battle that saw two teams slugging it out at Lambeau with temperatures as cold as minus-27 with the wind-chill.

And then there was the New England Patriots and San Diego Chargers in the AFC title game. I was really pulling for the Chargers, but after losing LaDainian Tomlinson early in the first quarter, I knew it’d be an even harder uphill battle. But they hung in there until the fourth quarter. If they had capitalized on a couple touchdowns instead of settling for field goals in the red zone, we may be talking about a Chargers upset. But in the end, everyone has 20/20 hindsight and the game ended like everyone assumed it would, with a Patriots win.

So now on to Arizona, where the Patriots are a heavy favorite over the Giants. Lets at least hope for a close game and I’m personally hoping for a Giants upset, or at the very least, a very competitive Super Bowl. If the Patriots are going to end the year with a perfect record, lets at least make them work for it.

    Now, on to Glendale!

Romo and Simpson Can Now Have Quality Time

Amani Toomer - New York Giants

Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys were one of the many teams upset this weekend in the second round of the NFL Playoffs. Since Romo couldn’t lead his team to the NFC Championship Game, he can now spend some more PDA filled evenings with his new sweetheart, Jessica Simpson. I wonder if her parents will tag along again.

Here are the players who helped out their team this weekend and some who didn’t:

New York Giants 24, Dallas Cowboys 17

    • Eli Manning didn’t turn the ball over once and connected to Amani Toomer for two touchdown passes.

San Diego Chargers 28, Indianapolis Colts 24

    • Philip Rivers tossed for three touchdowns despite a non-existent LaDainian Tomlinson, who left with a leg injury.
    • Peyton Manning was his usual self with over 400-yards passing and four touchdowns, but it was his two interceptions in Charger territory that proved to be crucial.

New England Patriots 31, Jacksonville Jaguars 20

    • Tom Brady only threw two incomplete passes, connecting on 26 passes and throwing three touchdowns.

Green Bay Packers 42, Seattle Seahawks 20

    • Brett Favre and Ryan Grant each had three touchdowns, including 201 yards rushing for Grant.
    • Seattle’s running game was pretty much non-existent, as Shaun Alexander led the Seahawks with 20-yards.

Here are the best of the best in NFL action yesterday. And surprisingly, Tom Brady wasn’t the most dominant player this weekend.

    • In a heartbreaking loss to the 49ers, Kurt Warner tossed for a staggering 484 yards and 2 touchdowns, but it was his costly fumble in the end zone that lost the game for the Cardinals.
    • Frank Gore did it all for the 49ers, running for 116 yards with 2 touchdowns and catching 11 passes for 98 yards.
    • Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald hauled in 9 passes for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns.
    • Colts signal caller Peyton Manning was back this week with 3 touchdown passes and 272 passing yards.
    • Despite not having any touchdown grabs, Patriot Wes Welker caught 13 passes for 149 yards.
    • Antonio Gates caught 6 passes for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns for the San Diego Chargers.
    • The Viking Defense had an awesome game with 3 out of their 4 interceptions being returned for touchdowns and 3 sacks.
    • Bronco Jay Cutler passed for 302 yards and 2 touchdowns.
    • Brett Favre was up there with Kurt Warner in terms of stats, but led the Packers to a win with 381 yards and 3 touchdowns.
    • Kellen Winslow caught 10 passes for 107 yards and a touchdown.
    • Drew Brees threw for 3 touchdowns and rushed for another one in a win over Carolina.
    • Chad Johnson had 3 touchdowns and 103 yards receiving on 12 catches.
    • Tom Brady passed for 380 yards and only 1 touchdown.

Here are the best of the best in NFL action yesterday. If you had one of these guys on your team this weekend, your team probably did really well.

    • I feel like I’m repeating myself every weekend, but here it goes. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw for 5 touchdowns. Again. And had over 300 yards. Again. Actually, 373 yards to be exact. The man has 38 touchdowns through 10 games this year.
    • Brady’s partner in crime, Randy Moss hauled in four of those touchdown passes and finished with 10 catches and 128 yards.
    • Vikings running back Chester Taylor filled in nicely for the injured Adrian Peterson, capping off the day with 164 yards and three touchdowns.
    • Brett Favre doesn’t look like he’s going to be slowing down anytime soon. He tossed three touchdowns and 218 yards in a win against Carolina.
    • Terrell Owens took over against the Redskins yesterday, catching eight passes for 173 yards and four touchdowns.
    • Tony Romo guided Dallas to another win by throwing for 293 yards and four touchdowns.
    • Santana Moss had 121 yards on nine catches and one touchdown.
    • Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck finished the night with 337 yards and two touchdowns.
