Even Barry Zito Knows He Can’t Pitch

    Barry Zito

I was just looking over the scores from last night’s baseball games and I happened to check out the San Francisco Giants game. Now it doesn’t surprise me that the Giants lost, that’s a given. But when I saw who the losing picture was, I couldn’t believe that he still hasn’t won a game yet.

Yep, that would be Barry Zito. The man is now 0-5 with a 5.61 era and 10 strikeouts, bringing his overall record in San Francisco to 11-18. Usually I wouldn’t care about the Giants and their ace, but I just happened to remember two years ago, Zito claimed a seven-year, $126 million contract, including $14.5 million this year alone, making him the sixth highest paid player at the time. In other words, Zito hasn’t lived up to the hype and will soon be named, if not already, about to be named a bust.

And after last night’s short outing, he even knows he sucks.

“We came out and we capitalized on Webb’s mistakes. They gave me a lead of 3-0, and I feel like…(rhymes with spit). I let them back in the game. I gave them two runs in a shutdown inning, and then I went out in the fourth and gave up a hit to Webb.”

Webb would be Brandon Webb, the opposing Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher.

Well, I guess I can look at it this way, he may have had a rough year last season and is off to a bad start again this season, but look at the bright side. At least he has five more seasons to earn the rest of his money.

Brandon Webb’s Scoreless Innings Streak Ends

All good streaks are bound to end and that’s what happened with Brandon Webb’s last night.

The Arizona Diamondback pitcher’s scoreless inning streak ended Wednesday night at 42 innings when Prince Fielder singled home a run in the first inning.

The night still ended well for Webb as the reigning NL Cy Young winner got his sixth consecutive win after defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2.

Webb, who started his streak July 20, gave up two runs in seven innings worked to improve to 14-8.
