There were about 17,223 in attendance Wednesday night at the Home Depot Center that can seat up to 27,000. And to top that off, it was rumored that 8,000 of those tickets were given away for free.

As a loyal Philadelphia Phillies fan, it hurts me to write about this so-called milestone.

But the Phillies became the first team in sports history to lose 10,000 games Sunday night, when they dropped their latest to the St. Louis Cardinals, 10-2.

Their road to becoming the losingest team in sports history has spanned a disappointing 125 seasons. Yes, there have been some good moments and a few championships, but there have been far more losing seasons and let downs.

If you’re a loyal Phillies fan, then you know that losing has become tradition in the City of Brotherly Love. For a time there, I thought the team took pride in the way they lost because they seem to do it in the most dramatic fashion.

Who could forget what happened the last time the Phillies went to the World Series in 1993. It was a pretty traumatic time for me as a 12-year-old fan. I was camped on my couch in front of my TV, with my Phillies cap and mitt hoping they could pull out a win. Then Joe Carter crushes the ball over the left field fence in the bottom of the ninth off Mitch Williams, giving the Toronto Blue Jays the title. The Phillies haven’t been back to the playoffs since and have been letting down their fans year in and year out.

But we have hope this year. They are staying in the playoff race and with their tradition of good performances after the All-Star break, maybe this year they can make it back to the playoffs.

That’s a big maybe though.

After losing his previous three starts after getting a victory in his season debut, the Rocket got win No. 350 last night. He became the first player, and eighth overall, to do so since Hall of Famer Warren Spahn reached the total back in 1963.

Clemens’ record now stands at 2-3 with the 5-1 win over the Minnesota Twins. He pitched eight innings and finished with four strikeouts.

To give you an idea how fast that is, Mark McGwire did it in 393 games and we all know how fast he hit them out. As for Bonds, he’s nowhere close.
