In soccer, the Gold Cup Final was set for Sunday with the two favorites (Mexico and U.S.A) meeting to no surprise to anyone. The match was even up until halftime when Mexico broke the game open with a goal. They never stopped scoring after that and the game ended in a 5-0 rout. It was a big win for Mexico, even against the U.S. so called B team, because they hadn’t won in the U.S. since 1999 (0-9-2). For the U.S. it’s very disappointing to lose like this, but they still have time to rebound before World Cup Qualifying. In the World Football Classic Club, America was trying to make it an even bigger day for Mexican soccer with a win over English power Chelsea. Club America had already proved that it could hang with the big boys, with a win against AC Milan and draw with Inter Milan, but Chelsea just has too much depth and won 2-0 playing with mostly backups. The tournament was very successful in the U.S. as each game was played to full stadiums proving that Americans like high quality soccer that Europe brings. It would be cool to see more games like this in the States.

In baseball, the races are heating up with teams trying to shore up their weaknesses through trades. The Cardinals were the first to make a move picking up Matt Holliday. Good move by them to get help for Albert Pujols. Now all the attention will turn to another Holladay, Roy. There are said to be many teams interested in Roy but are they willing to give up the high price for the trade. We’ll have to wait and see this week.

My mother once told me, “if you have nothing good to say, then don’t say it all.”

Of course, I was told this after I said something rude and obnoxious and I still haven’t learned that valuable lesson. Sorry mom, I’m still growing up.

And Joe Frazier apparently suffers from the same disorder.

When Frazier was interviewed for the HBO documentary “Thrilla in Manilla,” he had these kind words to say about his former rival, Muhammad Ali:

“I’m sorry that (Muhammad Ali) is the way he is, but I didn’t have too much to do with it. It was the good man above. Maybe I did have a little to do with it, but God judges, you know what I’m saying? We don’t have the power to judge that the man has above.”

Well, I guess since Frazier said he was sorry first, before he ranted about Ali having has the “shakes” should make his comments OK.

But if I were any of Frazier’s friends, I’d try to stay clear of him for a while. You never know when a random lightning bolt will happen to strike him in the middle of the afternoon.

I thought boxers were supposed to be tough.

I understand losing can be hard, but my god, take it like a man.

Here is the post fight interview of Kelly Pavlik after he got handled by Bernard Hopkins. Talk about a sore loser. I love how Pavlik gives every excuse in the book about how it was all his fault on why he lost to an old man past his prime. He wouldn’t credit Hopkins in any way, shape or form. And then for him to run off a ton of excuses on why he lost to only say afterwards, “I’m not making any excuses.”

Would someone please get this woman a tissue.

I blame Floyd Mayweather for this. Not the thief.

Who keeps a $7 million worth of jewelry in their house that isn’t locked up in a vault the size of Texas! If I was hurting for money in today’s economy, I’d entertain the idea of pick-pocketing the boxer too. Actually scratch that, I’m more of a car guy. Anyways, apparently he had the jewelry just laying around the house August 17th between the night hours and seven and nine.

Although it is a shame for losing that much money in jewelry, I’m still trying to comprehend what man needs to invest that much money in jewelry. Is he trying to become the Liberachi of boxing?

Anyways, so you’d think that the thief came in like Ocean’s Eleven with an intricate system of tunnels and gadgets? Oh no my friend. All this man needed was a hooded sweatshirt and an open window.

In another twist, his opponent in that fight, Danny Batcheldrin, was suspended as well for the same infraction.

I don’t feel sorry for either of the boxers, but I do feel for the fans who didn’t get to see a knockout.

For guys that are juicing, they sure don’t look or play the part.

Toney won the fight with a split decision and they both face up to a year suspension.
