Twitter Mania: First Shaq, Now Paul Pierce

Posted March 31, 2009 by nick

 Paul Pierce

What is going on with the Twitter craze and the NBA!?!?

First Charlie Villanueva did it, then Shaq, then Mark Cuban got FINED for doing it, and now Paul Pierce.

The Boston Celtics star apparently wrote on his Twitter account to tell fans show up in front of the arena and the first five people to do so, with the secret password, received tickets for the night. And, in unimaginative fashion, the password was “Truth.”

I don’t get what’s so crazy about Twitter. It just lets you know what that person is doing for that very second. Nothing exciting.

Be right back. I have to “Tweet” about writing about Twitter. Life is exciting!

 Coach K plays Guitar Hero

It looks like everyone is getting in on the Guitar Hero action. That includes college basketball.

But instead of Tyler Hansbrough, Blake Griffin and other collegiate stars starring in the latest spoof of “Risky Business” for the Guitar Hero commercial, it happens to be coaches sliding across the living room floor.

Coach K, Bobby Knight, Rick Petino and Roy Williams showed us their all for the latest promo. Check it out.

Armed Fan: Man With Gun Broke onto DWTS Set

Shawn Johnson - Dancing with the Stars

If you’re a follower of the show (don’t act like you’re not) Dancing with the Stars, then this shouldn’t be news to you. But for those of you who are not (or in denial), this should be news to you.

A man was arrested on the set after he jumped a fence, while armed with two pistols and duct tape.

Robert O’Ryan, 34, was arrested for trying to see Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson, who is 17 and a performer on the popular show.

O’Ryan said in police statements that he moved from Florida to California to be with Johnson and that they were meant to be together and have children. Hmm…sure buddy.

I once had an obsession for Jessica Rabbit. I went to the studio lot to find her, but they told me she wasn’t real. Even tried to find her agent, but had no luck. It’s OK, she’s just playing hard to get. I like that in a woman.

Jessica, if you’re reading this…nevermind. I don’t want to ruin the thrill of the chase. SEE YOU SOON!

New Evidence: Donte Stallworth Flashed Lights at Reyes

Posted March 25, 2009 by nick

Donte Stallworth

By now you’ve heard the news involving Cleveland Browns receiver Donte Stallworth and how he struck and killed a pedestrian with his Bentley on March 14.

New evidence now shows that the victim, Mario Reyes, wasn’t in a crosswalk at the time of the accident and that Stallworth had actually flashed his lights to Reyes to warn him. At 7:15 in the morning.

Stallworth was going 50 mph in a 40 mph zone and it’s still being determined if alcohol played a factor. The 911 calls of the witnesses has also been released, detailing what happened that morning.

Although this is a tragedy, something tells me that Stallworth could have done a little more to avoid the collision. You know. Like, use your horn. Swerve out of the way. Brake.

Flashing your lights in broad daylight seems to be the last thing I would do.

Peyton Manning and Kenny Chesney Sing Something

Posted March 24, 2009 by nick

 Peyton Manning

You gotta love drunk karoake.

Anyone thinks they can hold a tune when given a microphone. And in this case it’s Peyton Manning. Apparently he and his pal Kenny Chesney decided to do a duet at some bar.

Peyton is better off sticking to his MasterCard commercials. I don’t see a future in singing anytime soon. Even if your pal has connections like Kenny Chesney.

So Long: Curt Schilling Announces Retirement on Blog

 Curt Schilling

After 23 years in the Major Leagues, Curt Schilling has decided to retire from the game.

And what better way to do it than to announce it on your blog, 38 Pitches.

Schilling made the announcement on the post, properly titled Calling it Quits:

After being blessed to experience 23 years of playing professional baseball in front of the world’s best fans in so many different places, it is with zero regrets that I am making my retirement official.

Drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 1986, he played for Houston, Philadelphia, Arizona and, of course, the Boston Red Sox, where he is most famous for pitching with the “bloody sock” in the 2004 World Series.

Schilling finishes with a career record of  216-146 record, 3.46 ERA and 3,116 strikeouts.
