Apparently you can do it with a bow and arrow, if your catch is bigger than the average fish.

Just ask Brian Gouliquer, a bowfisherman, who in April shot at a fin in the Trinity River in Texas, but wasn’t exactly sure what it was.

But they soon found out how big it was, when it took three men to load the 250 pound, 7-foot 7-inch alligator gar into the boat.

This thing is both ugly and huge!

When I first saw the picture online at Field & Stream , I couldn’t believe that it was a trout! The thing was so huge.

But sure enough, Adam Konrad of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan reeled in this soon to be record 43.6 pound trout off the shore of Lake Diefenbaker in southern Saskatchewan. The 26-year-old caught the monster June 5 using a 4-inch Mepps Syclops on a six-pound test line. Yes, six.

Konrad was fishing the lake with his brother Sean when he hooked the trout. The two of them have been on a non-stop pursuit of the record, catching numerous 20-pound trouts and some 30-pounders along the way in the same lake. They already hold a few records to their names before this one, but I’m sure this catch will shine above the rest.

The current record stands at 42.2 pounds, from a rainbow trout was caught in Bell Island, Alaska in 1970. Konrad is still waiting on the official word from the International Game Fish Association before tabbing himself the record holder.
