We’re getting ready to participate at the annual Mardi Gras parade where I live at. This is Southeast Texas, only a 45-minute drive away from Louisiana so this celebration is definitely big here. I’m still at a loss on what to wear but I didn’t have a hard time coming across these lovely gem-inspired decorative accessories in the colors of Mardi Gras.

I never realized how the colors of Mardi Gras can be so fantastic in decorative accessories. Now back to what to wear…

Discount Tableware - Blue Wedge Place Mats

What I like about this particular place mat besides the modern  ribbing is the shape. Obviously the shape is meant to enhance and be used on circular tables, which is what I have! :)

The Kraftware Wedge Placemat is available in a variety of sizes and is sold for only $2.99.

Helen Amy Murray Edwardian Tub Chair in Bloom - Funiture Design

Sometimes a piece of furniture serves more than its function. Sometimes, a piece of furniture is truly a work of art. Such is the case with this Edwardian Tub Chair in Bloom ($Varies) by young British designer Helen Amy Murray. In this piece, rich, creamy leather is manipulated to form a textile portrait of blossoms. A gorgeous statement—and a comfy one, too.

Affordable Flatware - Basic, Light in Classic Silver is all I Seek

Discount Tableware - Oneida Discount Silverware

Quite simply, I think the charm of opening a kitchen drawer and finding one huge spoon, a tiny plastic fork and a dull butter knife has finally worn thin. I need a solid “complete” set of flatware.

I never went for the super frou-frou types, nor do I like the idea of heavy lifting every time I eat a bowl of cereal. Translation I do not like super heavy or ornate silverware. I think that the Oneida 45 piece stainless steel silverware set is ideal for my needs. The geometric and modern design suits my palette and the stainless steel material ensures that this flatware set will stand the test of time and require no polishing like more expensive “silver” ware sets.

The set costs $79.99 (originally $118.74)

Wedge Placemat Sets - Blair Table Linens

Blair - Kitchen - Discount Tableware - Table Linens Here’s one of the many things that make me borderline if not completely certifiable! I hate how normal table linens are SQUARE. The reason I have such strong feelings about this matter is because when the place mats are square on a ’round’ table the corners overlap and bothers the heck out of me!

Which is why I have been searching high and low for tableware like the Wedge Placemat Set from Blair.

The placemats keep your table free from dinner time nicks and scratches, crumbs and spills. Enough pieces to cover a party of six, it’s the value-priced way to have extra placemats on hand for those bigger family gatherings or for those impromptu get-togethers with guests. Fully reversible for easy transitional styling.

But my favorite feature of the wedge table placemats is the SHAPE! As you can see they are not square but angled or “wedged” in such a way that the corners don’t overlap but still supply ample coverage to protect your table and set your dinnerware upon. If you are crazy like me these simple style features are the defining difference between purchasing your basic set and buying a wedged set.

Also please note that this style feature applies to mainly round dinner tables. :)

    Price $34.99 (for six)

    Biodegradable Plates, Cups and Utensils

    Biodegradable Plates, Cups & Utensils

So as I stood in the aftermath of my families Thanksgiving dinner, huge black trash bag in hand, making my rounds threw the kitchen and living room, and pool room, picking up discarded bowls, dishes, cups, spoons, forks..napkins, I thought to myself; “Wow, this is a whole lot of trash!” And that was just one Thanksgiving dinner, imagine the accumulated trash across the country!

Which is why I made a mental note to search for biodegradable plates, cups and utensils as soon as I got back to blogging. The set featured above is from Branchhome.com and is made of plates, cups and bowls that are 100% biodegradable, compostable sugar cane fiber (bagasse) that is a byproduct of the sugar refining process. (Supplies of this material are virtually unlimited worldwide. The use of bagasse products eliminates the dependence of traditional wood fiber-based materials in disposable tableware. Since bagasse is traditionally burned for disposal, the diversion of the fiber into the making of tableware prevents harmful air pollution.) Source

The potato-starch cutlery is sturdy, attractive, reusable, and suitable for hot foods up to 220° F. It will biodegrade within 180 days in a commercial composting facility. Cutlery is sold in sets of 50. (Each set includes 50 forks, 50 knives and 50 spoons.)

On top of the benefits to the earth and atmosphere, these utensils are friendly to your wallet as well! They are very reasonable. Check out the prices and quantities offered below:

    16 oz. Bowl (pack of 50): $8.50
    12 oz. Cup (pack of 50): $9.00
    7″ Plate (pack of 50): $6.50
    9″ Plate (pack of 50): $9.00
    9″ Compartmentalized Plate (pack of 50): $9.00
    12″ Oval Platter (pack of 10): $5.50
Fork, Knife, Spoon (50 of each): $14.00
    price:
    Starting at: $5.50

Anyhow I ordered 1 set of 50 of each for Christmas and New Year’s, just thought it would be a good idea to spread the word.
