Mirrors can be so helpful: there are many standard places to put a mirror in your home for ultimate utility. A standard mirror placement is in the bathroom, right above the sink. This helps for face wash, hair dying, hair drying and styling, etc. But having a mirror in the bathroom also clogs up the bathroom in mornings: an overzealous high schooler experimenting with makeup for the first time could spend an hour in a bathroom just applying makeup, while the rest of the family desperately needs to shower or use the toilet. Putting a mirror in a second “beautifying” place in the house is necessary to keep the bathroom from being hogged. I suggest maybe a few small magnifying mirrors at your makeup desk or on top of your daughter’s drawers.

The worst places to put a mirror are right next to your bed and in the living room. A mirror is like a magnifying glass, and you can’t help but feel a bit unnerved, maybe even watched, by the glassy surface of a mirror. With a mirror right next to your bed, you won’t be able to relax, always thinking about what you look like as you sleep, and feeling down when you wake up and see your mussed hair and smeared makeup. In the living room, you want to be focusing on your family so don’t pretend that a mirror wouldn’t be distracting for the family tween or even the family cat.
