Designing A Nursery For You And Your Baby

When you have a child or are about to have one, everyone wants to have the ideal baby’s room that you see in movies like Father of the Bride Part II. If it’s a girl, then pink and pastels, and blues for boys. And we can’t forget the ever-popular yellow or green color scheme for those parents who do not wish to know the sex before birth.

The problem with these types of baby rooms is that they have been done a million times. How many times have you gone into a nursery and seen the same exact colors, and even wallpaper borders, as you did in the last ten nurseries you saw. The blue and the pink are overdone, so why not splash up your baby’s room with what is not only good for baby, but for you as well.

Why not try a themed nursery, such as Teddy bears or trains? These invite colorful hues such as brown and blue and even a little train engine red. You are not stuck with pastel either. Don’t be afraid to go with a more bolder look. The truth is the baby isn’t going to notice for a while.

He’s not going to come to you at 16 months requesting a new border because he’s either gotten bored with it or never liked it in the first place. The main person that will see the room is you, so it should be a place where you are comfortable. I spent a lot of time in my eldest son’s room with late night feedings, rocking and picking him up at night.

We chose the standard pastel blue and I remember thinking how much I didn’t like it. I basically did it because that was what you were supposed to do, but I changed it up for the second one. Don’t be afraid to do something that you like. If you want something that’s more modern, then go for it. There is no reason why your tastes should not be reflected in the nursery.

The whole point of a nursery is to be a fun place for the baby to sleep and grow up in. When the child gets older and starts developing his own tastes, then ask him about them and then consider changing the room to fit. Until then, just make it a happy and safe environment for you and the baby.
