Sure, the name may not sound appetizing, but there are few desserts better suited for the Halloween season than Worms and Dirt. No, that’s not a code word for zombie graves. I’m talking about the creamy, fun-to-eat dessert that will have your little ghosts and witches begging for more. And maybe your kids, too.
You won’t need a wooden stake to keep your vampire at bay with this Halloween. Just a spoon, and this quick, easy and fun dessert!
Ingredients:
1 package of softened cream cheese
1/3 cup of softened butter
1 cup of confectioners sugar
3 1/2 cups of cold milk
2 packages of vanilla pudding mix
1 package of whipped cream
1 package of cream-filled chocolate cookies
1 package of gummy worms
Beat the cream cheese, butter and sugar in a large bowl until nice and creamy. In a separate bowl, whisk the milk and pudding until set and then stir in cream cheese. Fold in the whipped cream. Slowly mix the two bowls until everything is supremely creamy. Yes, you can snitch a finger-full or two. I won’t judge.
Crush the cookies into small pieces and layer them on the bottom of a dish, then add a layer of the pudding mixture. Keep layering until there is only a small portion of cookies left. Sprinkle over the top of the dish. Place some gummy worms on top, so they look like they are crawling out of the “dirt.”
This is perfect for Halloween parties, but is easy enough to do any time. For this dessert, presentation is everything, so go all out on making the worms look like they’re really crawling through the dessert.
I’ve even seen people use other gummy items, like fingers and eyeballs, to max out the creep factor. Don’t be afraid to get creative, including miniature shovels or a graveyard scene on top, complete with gummy or sugar tombstones. Halloween only comes once a year, so make it count.
