Weird Architecture: WonderWorks

I’ve always been a big fan of the weird and unusual, and that pretty much sums up the various WonderWorks museums littered throughout the United States. They mix a spirit of freedom and …well…wonder with education to make a truly unique museum and theme park.

There are four WonderWorks museums throughout the United States, but the exterior of each building has the same unique construction detail: They’re upside down. While, structurally, the buildings are still a standard rectangle and, thus, not really upside down, roof ornamentation and ground landscaping are inverted so the trees are on the roof and the decorations are on the bottom.

They use this to their advantage by spinning a yarn about secret research stations, a manmade tornado and an experiment gone out of control. Luckily, a quick trip through an inversion tunnel rights everything for the visitor and the inside is not upside down.

Once inside the building, one finds that it is part museum with more than 100 interactive attractions and a theme park. They recreate the experience of the 1989 San Francisco earthquake and guests actually feel the earth moving under the feet. No words if there were any stars tumblin’ down. (I couldn’t resist the joke.)

An exhibit not for the light-hearted, for those who are, a visit to WonderWorks would be a real bed of nails. The exhibit teaches the fundamental laws of forces, and you get to actually lay down on a bed of nails (which can’t be any worse than the beds I had in college). One can also try his or her hand at mind ball where, by using biofeedback and brainwaves, one can move a ball across a playing field; this is an actual training tool used on cadets at West Point Military Academy.

There are tons of fun and amazing exhibits in this modern architectural wonder. The upside down facade may be a gimmick, but its a good one and the museum on the inside is just the icing on this upside down cake.

Needed to draft you the tiny note to say thanks yet again with your pleasing methods you’ve featured at this time. It has been simply extremely generous with people like you to give without restraint what exactly a number of people would’ve marketed for an e-book to generate some dough for their own end, precisely given that you could possibly have done it if you considered necessary. These techniques in addition served to be a good way to realize that someone else have similar dream really like mine to see a great deal more on the subject of this problem. I’m sure there are millions of more pleasurable opportunities up front for many who looked at your site.
