In my humble opinion when it comes to can openers, the manual variety is best! Growing up in the 80’s my diet pretty much consisted of nutrition that was delivered in the form of cans. Hey, it was the 1980’s both parents were working and it was the era of shoulder pads, power suits and disco. It’s no small miracle that I was fed at all.
That said, our house came with an electronic can opener already attached to the cabinet in the kitchen. At first I thought it was cool, even swanky. Fast forward 2 years and the thing was ripe with rust, shards of left over tin can and god knows what else. Since then I have sworn off electronic can openers.
However my current dilemma is much like socks the can openers always seems to go missing! We have one of those can openers that has a bottle opener at the end, which I think is the reason it continuously goes wanting. If you are in the market for a new can opener, here is a short list of great options:
1. OXO Good Grips Can Opener - $9.95

Simple, efficient and affordable. Has an oversized knob to make turning easy, and the OXO trademark non-slip, rubber grip keeps things nice and snug. OXO is based on the concept of Universal Design. Universal Design simply means the design of products usable by as many people as possible.
2. Swing A Way Can Opener - $7.76

White, chrome plated and has one of those infamous hook things to open beers and assorted bottles. Perhaps the best feature is it has recently been reduced in price, the original price was $10.10 and the current price is $7.76!
3. OXO Safety Can Opener - $19.99

So this model is the priciest of the three, but for good reason. The OXO Safety can opener has a patented cutting mechanism that opens cans easily without leaving those jagged razor sharp edges that other can openers do! Plus it has built in pliers for easy lid removal. No more fishing for the lid with a fork or a spoon.
