Leather Sofas - Restoration Hardware & More

Posted September 4, 2007 by evette
Found in: Living Room, Furniture, Home Decor

I have received a few emails and comments suggesting that I only like show pieces and do not highlight “functional/comfortable” furniture. The following post is my response to such allegations. I offer you the most comfortable sofa this side of the Universe.

    LANCASTER LEATHER SOFA

So my bestfriend Michelle found this sofa from Restoration Hardware about two Christmases ago. She would not stop raving about it, she was hoping to buy the following floor model at a discount but alas it was betrothed to another (sheds single tear).

That’s her lounging on her beloved. So turns out this sofa is part of the Lancaster Leather Collection and it is currently on SALE at Restoration Hardware until September 16!

    Was: $4365 - $4910

    Now: $3965 - $4169

Now here is why the above price should not alarm you. First of all, great furniture is worth the investment. This particular piece is timeless, has that great broken in quality that stands the test of time. The leather is as soft as a babies tooshie and is the type of leather that looks better with age. It’s also pet and child friendly and smells great to boot!

    Here are the official stats:

    • Made in the USA
    • Kiln-dried hardwood
    • Eight-way, hand-tied spring suspension
    • Double-doweled frame
    • Corner-blocked joinery
    • Sports a depth of almost 4′ and a length of nearly 8′
    • Down cushions feature foam cores wrapped in premium, hypo-allergenic white goose down blend and sewn into a down proof ticking
    • Dimensions: 94″W x 47″D x 39″H

My friend got hers in Madera Gold, but I personally prefer the Bourbon shade. Oozes Old Hollywood glamor and swankiness if you ask me. I can imagine myself smoking a smuggled Cuban cigar with Frank and the rest of the Rat Pack, whilst sipping on my Brandy.

    It’s nice to dream…

I can see why she fell in love with it. It not only has good clean lines but has a “well worn” look. Not to mention deep enough for some really confy napping ! ;)

I’ve bought some great furniture from RH over the years - none of which was ever delivered when they claimed it would. They have the absolute worst customer service. My last order went from “being in stock” to “being on back order” within one day. Here it is 12 weeks later and I just found out it won’t be delivered for another 4 months.

    Don’t do it.

We ordered couches in June. Mike is right the customer service is awful. I still dont have a complete order - it is paid for and i dont have a complete timeline on my couch coming in.

I mentioned a shipment delay from RH in my last comment from July. At that time I was told my order would be delivered September 21.

Here it is October 23rd and they “don’t know when” they’ll be able to ship. And as Sarah mentioned regarding her order, I’ve already paid for this item. Now they don’t know when they can ship it.

Restoration Hardware has lost all prospects of my future business.

The good news is that Resto has increased their designer discount to 20% off the retail price. That saves my clients who are buying an anchor piece (furniture) and a couple accessories over a grand.

Just wanted to inform everyone that Resto has moved production of ALL their leather furniture to China as of Q4 2008. If you want an American made Maxwell or Lancaster check out www.couchseattle.com

I own the Maxwell studio sleeper in Madera Gold (in the photo that’s Madera Gold) - paid the full price and worth it!
I also got the chaise later - love it.
I’m usually a discount shopper but trust me - this particular style is worth its weight in Madera Gold (-:

I have been looking for a look-a-like version of this sofa for a while. I have to have this as I agree it looks like the most comfortable sofa in the world but I don’t want to take out a mortgage to buy it. I found a look-a-like that looks good on CascoBayFurniture.Com. Same leather, down cushions, eight way hand tied made in NC for a lot less. Has anyone purchased this sofa?
