HAHAHAHAH!! Okay I had to share this image regarding this New Cell Phone Law in California because it struck my funny bone, I think this fella is both genius and hugely idiotic at the same time.
Where was I?
Here are the FACTS regarding the new Cell Phone Laws:
Effective: July 1, 2008
Two Laws Actually:
1.The first prohibits all drivers from using a handheld wireless telephone while operating a motor vehicle, (Vehicle Code (VC) §23123). Motorists 18 and over may use a “hands-free device.”
2. Drivers under the age of 18 may NOT use a wireless telephone or hands-free device while operating a motor vehicle (VC §23124).
- You can call 911 without using a “hands free” device.
- FEES: $20 (base fine) $50 (subsequent convictions) + penalties so it could go up to 3x base fine
- NO POINTS on your driving record, but it will appear as a CONVICTION on your driving record
- NO GRACE PERIOD: A copper will NOT tell you off with a first time warning, effective July 1st, they can pull you over and give you a ticket based on cellphone use alone
- ONLY DRIVERS - your car guests can blab away
- PUSH TALK - does NOT qualify as “hands free”
