Google Cancels Wave Interface
As the old adage goes, you can’t win them all. Even Google, whose staggering record of successful products has won them followers from all over the Internet, fell victim to such a thing
this week. In spite of the positive feedback and innovative idea behind it, Google Wave has officially been canceled. The news comes as a bit of a shock. Ever since Google unveiled Wave sometime last year, the buzz in the blogging community has been steady and consistently positive. Alas, the entire project is now no more.
Google Wave, for the uninitiated, was an unprecedented attempt at integrating all sorts of facets of Google online products into one platform. Google Documents allowed users to review spreadsheets and text files at the same time, making corrections and edits that could be seen by other users. Google Chat allowed users to share links and interface with each other in real time.
Google Wave, however, was all this and more. Bringing together parts of both of these products, as well as project management that had yet to be introduced elsewhere by the company, Wave was an all-encompassing interface designed to bring cooperative projects into the 21st century.
