    10 Alternatives to the “Ho-Hum” Flash Drive

    Posted May 7, 2009 by marti

    Yes, we saw the condom storage design and the tampon flash drive (*shudder*); these little guys are coming in all shapes and sizes these days.  Here are a few more fun and flashy (haha) ways to travel with your data.

    Bullet Drive

    For the Ted Nugent fan and fellow NRA supporter who needs a flash drive, these are available from 1 to 32 GB in gold, silver or bronze. They measure 2.5″ x 0.6″ x 0.6″ (65mm x 16mm x 16mm)

    Snow White jokes aside, the Jeweled Apple USB Drive Pendant ($21) has a lot of bling and the apple design makes it a great match for educators.  It measures 45mm x 45mm x13mm, and weighs 40g, available in red, pink, blue and white.  It hangs on a long chain and the pendant itself weighs 40g, 2GB drive.

    Yeah!  Get some!  Geeky Gadgets brings us the goth/metal/punk/pirate fashion flash drive with 4GB of storage, is USB 2.0 compatible and features a retractable USB connector.  The USB Skeleton Necklace Flash Drive ($32) measures 25 x 38 x 15mm and weighs just 35g.

    Meow? *paw* *paw* … The Paw USB Flash Drive ($17) is way too cute for its own good.  With a simple design, it can be also attached to keys or bag.  And the cap can be attached to the little accessory the flash drive is in use so you don’t lose it. 2GB capacity, 45×34x9mm, weighs 15g.

    It’s a thumb drive ($17). Nuff said.  Product Specs: 2GB, USB 2.0, plug and play, 60×27x25mm, weighs 20g.

    Heart Handbag Necklace USB Flash Drive ($23) – more blingy bling for your data storage. 2GB, 50×40x13mm, weighs 45g.

    Swarovski Heart Beat USB Pendant: $180.00
    Okay, so it’s not the usual flash drive but how cute is this?  For the romantic and technological, the Swarovski crystal-encrusted pendant:

    • Holds a 1GB USB memory key;
    • Stores up to 250 songs or 1,000 photos;
    • High-speed USB 2.0 interface;
    • Backwards compatible with USB 1.1
    • No driver required for Windows ME/2000/XP/Vista/Linux 2.4 and Mac OS9
    • Made of polished stainless steel
    • Wear as a necklace on included silk cord

    Swarovski Heart Ware

    Heart Ware Vitrail Light USB Memory Key $139.99.

    For a variant on the Heart Beat, this heart shaped USB memory key hangs on a pink silk cord.  The polished stainless steel heart is combined with a fully faceted, asymmetrically cut Vitrail Light crystal.  The USB key:

    • Has a 1 GB data-holding capacity;
    • Stores up to 250 songs or 1,000 photos
    • High-speed USB 2.0 interface; backwards compatible with USB 1.1
    • No driver required for Windows ME/2000/XP/Vista/Linux 2.4 and Mac OS9
    • Made of polished stainless steel
    • Wear as a necklace on included silk cord

    Domo

    And to finish off, flash drives from Mimobot.  Mimobot is perhaps the king when it comes to kitschy flash drives.  Domo Bot ($29.99) is classic and cute.  The 2.5″ by 1″ designer USB drive like all the other Mimobots will let you customize sound effects played during drive mount and removal.

    • Preloaded digital memory
    • 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB capacities
    • Hi-speed USB 2.0
    • Mac/PC compatible
    • 2.5″ tall by 1″ wide

    Who doesn’t love Star Wars?  Mimobot has a whole series with characters like Wicket the Ewok, Princess Leia and Han Solo.

    Wood-Post It USB

    I swear, people will find anyway to make a USB unique.

    Just when you think people have transformed their little flash drives into everything possible, someone comes up with something new. And in this case, I think they’re reaching just a bit.

    This new, unique flash drive is not only made out of wood (hey, it can float!), but it also comes with some Post-it notes! But why would you have Post-it notes on a USB drive? Why not!

    Apparently opening a Word document, writing your notes down and saving it to your USB was too easy.

    Get Some Street Cred With These Hand USB Flash Drives

    Hand USB Flash Drives

    I don’t know what it is about these unique flash drives that make my life that much more joyful. These in particular make saving your files fun.

    For only $35 bucks, throw up your your neighborhood (East or Westside) or show your passion for rock n’ roll in your cubicle. Of course, if you’re daring enough to flash these puppies at work, then be careful of the rival CDs who think you’ve taken over their space (that was my lame attempt at some humor).

    Anyways, thought it would nice to share these with you.

    Check them out.
