    Projectors for College Kids

Posted October 29, 2009 by colleen
    Found in: Monitors, TVs

If your a college kid like me, you know that televisions are sometimes too bulky, too expensive, and too much of a target for sticky-fingered neighbors that having one in your dorm room or small apartment is not a wise decision. But you still want to play your video games and watch “The Big Game” on Sunday with all the buddies, so what do you do? Crowding around a computer screen is so freshman year. I suggest buying a projector: they’re small, easy to store, and you can make your screen as big as you want to!

Smarter.coml helps you find exactly what you’re looking for, at the cheapest price. Here are some of the top recommendations for projectors today:

    Acer X1160PZ Digital Projector - EY.J8801.021 from Buy.com: $489.95

    2400 Ansi Lumens 1024 X 768 from Amazon.com: $481.00

Sports Gadgets: Keep Track of Your Performance with a Pedometer

Posted October 19, 2009 by colleen
    Found in: Monitors

We all want to go out and exercise more, but maybe we should give yourselves credit for the exercise we get when we don’t expect it. Walking around the kitchen preparing dinner, walking from the copier back to your office, all of this adds up–sure it might not be as impressive as going out to run a marathon, but baby steps. We can all improve our lifestyle health, and keeping track of how long you walk in a day and increasing this by taking the stairs, walking to the bus stop and taking the bus instead of driving to work, or parking farther away from the grocery store so you get some extra distance are all great ways to start.

Some tips before you buy a pedometer:

    1. Start small; you probably only need the basic pedometer with the single function, keeping track of your steps in a day and converting it to miles. But if you’re tempted, there are plenty of pedometers with many fancy features, like calorie counters, heart rate monitors and speed estimators. Get motoring!

    2. Pedometers can be a little finicky, but that’s not usually the product’s fault. Usually it has to do with whether you programmed a too large (or too small) stride length or are not wearing the pedometer properly. Make sure all of these things are set to standard so you don’t end up with out of control readings.

Sportline Step and Distance Pedometer from Target.com: $4.99
    sportline pedometer
Really basic, standard pedometer. No bells and whistles.

    Sportline 345 Pedometer: $14.16

Comes with an exercise book and program for your pedometer!

GNC Caloric Pedometer from GNC.com: $14.99

You guessed it–this pedometer counts calories, too!

LG W53 SMART Series Monitor Review

Posted July 1, 2009 by marti
    Found in: Reviews, Monitors

If there’s one thing I consistently love about technology, it’s that it’s always advancing and providing us with better, faster, smarter products.

    LG W2353V-PF 23′ HD 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor: $229.99

The LG W2353V flat screen monitor definitely fits that category.  I’ve been using this for about a week now and the slim 23-inch screen has no dead pixels, excellent image quality and fast response times.

This monitor is part of LG’s W53 SMART Series, which incorporates the eyestrain-reducing SMART technologies like reading ambient lighting or viewed content and then adjusting for it. The package features other intuitive adjustments including Cinema Mode, which eliminates distractions by blacking out everything but the video clip, Eye-Fine Timer, which reminds users to take a break periodically, and Proximity Sensor, which detects when a user’s hand is near and lights up the touch-panel making them easy to find.

The auto bright feature intuitively adjusts for your room’s lighting so there’s no need to change the brightness during night use.  Awesome for gaming, the LG W2353V works well with PS3 and Xbox 360, when those fast response times are needed most.

Easy to set up, the LG W2353V is impressive right out of the box.   The stylish and lightweight design immediately upgraded my desktop.  Touch-sensitive buttons add to the sleek appearance and make for an easy switch to HDMI or DVI.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with the DVI cable, but that was easy enough to substitute with stuff I had here.

Even after a few hours of staring at the screen, when I usually want to walk away and look at anything but a computer, I find myself easily entranced.  The text looks sharp and the color is beautifully displayed on this non-glare screen, especially in 1080p.

    Specs:

    • Flat screen 23”
    • 2ms
    • Full HD 1080p Resolution
    • 50,000:1 Digital Fine Contrast Ratio
    • 300 cd/m2 Brightness
    • 170º/160º Viewing Angle
    • 16:9 Widescreen Format
    • SMART Package

Digital Tigers’ Exceptional Quality, Affordable Prices

     Digital Tigers

Dare to be different and check out the slick and flashy displays and monitors from Digital Tigers.

Some of the top companies and agencies in the world use products from this company, such as NASA and Boeing, and it’s available to you too. From their Zenview displays, where you can hook up multiple monitors at once to create one big picture, to the their Stratosphere workstations, these products are in a class of their own. And if you want to save a little more and get a package that includes both the display and workstation, compare prices on all their Zenstations.

Set up is also easy for multiple monitors. Don’t make it harder than it has to be, so refer to the Zenview Monitor utilities for multi-monitor utilities.

And if you don’t have time to call and make purchases, they have a great online system, where you can order all their displays online and workstations without having to pick up a phone.

Or maybe you’re thinking of a product that they don’t sell yet? No problem. You can call them for custom configuration requests. They’ll generally meet any display or workstation request, so it doesn’t hurt to call and ask.

But if there’s one model I’d recommend, it’s the Stratosphere Pro. It’s their best selling workstation platform for four straight years, reliable, has an exceptional quiet tower case and 4GB of memory for high performance and multitasking. This baby can do it all.
