NASA to Dig on Mars
NASA announced yesterday that it plans to launch an expedition to Mars, where they hope
to dig on the Red Planet for signs of life.
Sometime between August 3 to 24, they plan to send the Phoenix Mars Lander to the planet in hopes of a May 25, 2008 landing. The Phoenix has a 7.7 foot long arm used for digging up to a depth of 3 feet. Officials believe that they will find soil and frozen water believed to be hiding just underneath the surface that show some signs of life.
Once on Mars, they believe that the mission will take about three months and it will be working in conditions of minus 148 Fahrenheit.
