    Daytime Emmy Fashion Recap

Last night, the 2009 daytime Emmy’s took place and, of course, I was more focused on the evening wear than the awards themselves. I mean who watches daytime television anymore anyway. The following are a few outfits that I thought were particularly notable.

First up, Tyra Banks won the first ever award for most informative talk show.

For a notable fashion icon, Tyra’s red carpet look wasn’t as appealing as I thought it would be. The top doesn’t seem to  be supporting her chest at all and the biggest problem I have with this outfit is the fact that her hair is the same awkward, pale color as her dress. The beige doesn’t flatter her skin tone because it’s far too light and makes her appear washed out. The bottom beaded train is really pretty but the rest of the outfit just kills it.

This Clean House star Niecy Nash wore a lovely yellow fitted dress that really flattered her overall shape over body. This dress is perfect because it hugs her in the right places without revealing too much. Also, I’m absolutely in love with yellow on dark skin! It’s such a radiant combination.

I don’t care how old you are, but it’s never okay to have wings coming out of your top. Jeanne Cooper from Young and the Restless looks like she’s pitching a tent on the red carpet.

Kassie DePaiva from One Life to Live’s outfit was probably my favorite. For her age and the occasion, this white, stylish dress is both flattering and modern. In 90 degree weather, this was a very smart choice and she looks great in it.

The Bold and the Beautiful at the BET Awards

Most of us ordinary mortals would morph into a ball of nerves at the thought of  going out dripping in sequins and gold.  Fortunately for the ladies at BET awards, they have the attitude and star power to pull it off!  The highlights of the June 28 BET awards , besides the tribute to the King of Pop was of course Beyonce’s alarmingly gravity defying mini dress by the French Designer house, Balmain . LeToya Luckett and Alicia Keys were some of the many who decided to sport the same look.  To break the monotony of brash, bold and gold,  there were some rebels like Tyra Banks in mens’ wear inspired pant suit and Toccara Jones in a rather safe, tasteful, black jumpsuit.  At the very least, the gals know how to keep things interesting and spicy…

America’s Next Top Model Cycle 10 Premieres Tonight!

Can you believe that America’s Next Top Model is already having its 10th cycle!?  Time sure flies.  Once again there is an interesting batch of beautiful girls ready to compete/cat fight…..you name it!  Besides all the amazing photo shoots with fantastic makeup artists & photographers you have to admit that half the reason it’s fun to watch is because there is always that one chick that says “I’m not here to make friends” and causes drama like Monique Calhoun from Cycle 7 and many other past cast members.

America's Next Top Model Cycle 10

Unfortunately, this year Twiggy will not be joining the judges panel.  Another former supermodel, Paulina Porizkova, will be taking her place. You might have seen her on Dancing With the Stars recently.

Once small grip I have with this show….I always wonder why they always just add one plus size model to the mix.  Why not make an “American’s Next Plus Size Model” show?  They clearly do not judge the plus size girls by the same standards as the other girls.  They are always making comments about how they love certain girls because they look totally “high fashion”, but sadly I feel like they wouldn’t consider the plus size girls to be high fashion.  Am I wrong? Also, they are always getting on the non-plus size girls for gaining weight during the show like Keenyah Hill from Cycle 4.  Even Tyra herself can’t stand being seen as “bigger” and not up to par with other former top models as recently seen on her talk show when she devoted an entire show to the subject of all the scrutiny that she had to endure after being seen in a bathing suit.  I guess it just kind of seems unfair to me.  Let’s see what happens this year.

The season premiere of America’s Next Top Model is tonight on the CW at 8/7 Central.  Can’t wait!
