    Rihanna’s Fav: Outer Lingerie

Posted August 13, 2009 by ritika

I’ve been noticing that Rihanna’s style and fashion is nothing short of bold and sexy–her latest trend of outer lingerie has that affect. The R&B singer has hit the charts this week with her song “Run This Town” and there have been some footage released from the upcoming video. She’s been seen wearing (pictured right) knee boots and black leather shorts with a fur-coated neckline and heavy metal corset.

Fundamentally, Rihanna’s style includes two stark contrasts: femininity (the fur and high boots) and a hardcore, rough-edge (the leather and military-style clothing). Her outfit makes a bold, don’t-mess-with-me statement–who can blame her right? In another scene, she’s seen wearing exposed suspenders that have the blatant lingerie appeal. Her contrast of sexy lingerie with the dark, military rough exterior creates a new, fierce look for Rihanna.

Even her hands show this rough-edge, sexy contrast. Her red, long nails deliver a feminine beauty to the style while the pointed tips and the skull fist accessory contribute to her edginess. I definitely wouldn’t want to mess with her.

If you like the outer lingerie look but don’t feel bold enough to wear a corset in public (I mean who would) there’s a new trend surfacing. Lacy boy-shorts underneath actual denim shorts give the same bold and beautiful style at a very low price. It’s definitely sexy and yet casual at the same time. Even though it’s not as blatant and out-there as Rihanna’s new fierce look,  it’s still got that extra not-so-innocent look.

Inspired by the King of Pop: Who’s Bad?

That’s right, who is rocking Michael Jackson’s badass jacket?  Rihanna and Beyonce are!  The two divas have been spotted in a military jacket that strangely resembles Michael’s jacket from back in the day.  If you have big hips you should definitely try this jacket as it will make your figure look more proportioned.

I think military jackets look more sophisticated when you wear them in a longer version and has a fitted silhouette.

Shoulder Pads are Back from the 80’s

Lately I have noticed a lot of influences from the 80’s that are coming back such as neon colors, the whole sneaker culture, big hair and more. Even though this fashion style is clearly from the 80’s they still look modern and look good on many of us. On the other hand I’m not to cheerful on the return of shoulder pads. That look is so outdated plus I don’t think anybody suits this look, not even Victoria Beckham!

American Music Awards: Jewels and Metallics Rule

Posted November 19, 2007 by valentina

Metallics just won’t quit–they’ve been the award show staple for so long now, and they were still going strong as of last night’s American Music Awards. Lots of ladies did gold or silver for the show, and some even added jewels to the mix. Looks itchy.

As usual, Rihanna wins. Oh, and equally as usual, Beyonce went the extra mile and glittered her bosom.

    Milan Fashion Week Spring ‘08

Here are some highlights from Milan’s Fashion Week ‘08:

    Dsquared

    Designers: Dean and Dan Catan

Popstar Rihanna started this show and ended it, clad in super sexy, bosom-baring gowns that were indicative of the rest of the Dsquared show. The influence of another singer, Amy Winehouse loomed with the plethora of cat’s eyeliner.

Trends: caftans, halter tops, key holes, intricate cut outs, yellow, zippers, off the shoulder, ruffles, tan leather, feathers, royal purple, jewel trim, Grecian details and cigarettes.

    Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana was definitely channeling the 80s this time around. The theme was free-hand painting, which gave way to a collection that was vibrant, young and way fun. As a friend of mine remarked, “Ah, very 80s fashion student avant garde.” And, yes, a little splattered paint never hurt anyone, especially when the splattered upon garment is exquisitely tailored.

Designers: Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce

Trends: brocade, oversized jackets, splattered color, tulle, full skirts, corsets, high waist skirts, floral, cinched waists, and COLOR.

    Marni

This was one of my favorite shows. I love the distinct point of view where color and shape are concerned, plus I can’t get enough of that space-aged minimalism.

    Designer: Consuelo Castiglioni

Trends: low and loose waists, gathering, salmon, color blocking, square and and wide silhouettes, shifts, synthetic materials, high neck lines, tank dresses, and sheen.

    Rihanna Walks for Dsquared

Here’s Rihanna walking at the Dsquared show in Milan yesterday.  Who knew she was so tall? Or maybe Dan and Dean Caten are just really short?  I have to say it was nice to see a substantial leg strutting the catwalk for once–some of those other models look like their stems could break by the power of a strong wind.

Of course, the Umbrella singer has plans to start her own line now.  She says it will be “something edgy.” Everyone says that, but I do love me some Rihanna, so I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt. For now.

I’ll say this for her: the woman is a trooper.  She flew to Milan for the show and the grand opening of the Dsquared store then flew right back to Toronto to perform a concert.

    Rihanna’s Umbrella, ella, ella, eh

Normally, I’d be the first one to mock this latest development in celebrity products, but it’s Rihanna, so I’ll bite my tongue…I guess. No, I won’t.  This is too funny to pretend that it’s not.  Yes, she looks amazing (as usual) in this ad, but it’s kind of silly and, frankly, I’m not quite sure what makes these umbrellas so Rihanna.

Okay, the one pictured is cute, but the others are just, well, umbrellas.  One is silver, another black, and there’s one pink one that says “Rihanna” across it.  Some of them have a satin sheen to them, maybe that’s the Rihanna influence?  I’m not sure.

That said, the whole scheme is pretty harmless.  I mean, at least an umbrella has a real purpose, and these run between $15 and $50.  That’s cheaper than Burberry.

    Rihanna’s Brass Knuckle Heels

In more proof that Rihanna can pull off just about anything, here’s a pic of her sporting boots with brass knuckle boots at a recent appearance on BET’s 106 & Park (source). I don’t know about you, but I could never ever make these work–I would get arrested for sure.

Celebs are really into bossy shoes, lately. Maybe it’s the Victoria Beckam effect–she loves agressive footwear. Oh, and look, these have the square toes I just trend alerted about his morning.
