Metallic Sneakers: Latest Inspiration from Michelle Obama

First Lady Michelle has done it again! She caused a fashion uproar as she bedazzled last week by wearing a pair of gorgeous metallic sneakers to infuse life and personality into an otherwise mundane outfit of capri pants and J Crew cardigan.

Don’t you just love this metallic trend in sneakers?  It’s perfect for us girls who like to dress comfortable or run around a lot yet not want to look fuddy-duddy in a dirty lackluster regular old pair of trainers. And because they are dressier, you can get away with wearing them with skirts and dresses which you will usually never dream of with the regular ones.  Michelle’s Lanvin suede shoes that retails for $540 is a silver number with just the right amount of metallic pink at the tip to spice it up .  The price is pretty steep but who says we bargain snoops cannot come up with cheaper, equally fierce alternatives to jazz up our wardrobe?

You’re My Obession: The House of Lanvin

Posted April 29, 2009 by tanya

One reason I love to blog is that I have a captive audience of readers to whom I can air my ideas, theories and whims.  Here is my current obsession—and for once it has to do directly with fashion: the House of Lanvin.

I wear the perfume (it smells like apricots) the famous ballet flats (so chic, so comfortable) and now I actually own a piece of their clothing.  Granted, it is just the world’s prettiest t-shirt and I was lucky enough to scoop it up 70% off at a Barney’s sale but hey, whatever it takes.  So why am I so enamored?  Excellent question.

Helmed by the insanely talented and Chaplin-esque Israeli born Alber Elbaz, Lanvin remembers its French roots, but is not one of those design houses that is so entirely Gallic that a quintessential American feels out of place in its designs.  I think the thing that truly draws my eye and my jealously guarded dollars to Lanvin though, is the deep femininity inherent in all its designs.

One of the few great couture houses started by a female designer, Lanvin retains a true understanding of women.  Founded in 1889 by Jeanne Lanvin, the insignia was and remains a mother and child duo.  Everything the house produces from the elegant but useful handbags (even the practical Michelle Obama occasionally carries one!) to the ribbon tied shoe boxes speaks to the deeply female side of me and I suspect many, many others.

However, the greatest example of the womanly understanding of the house is in the designs.  The clothes created under Elbaz are well known for their magical draping and construction.  More than one lucky starlet has twittered delightedly about feeling sexy yet being able to actually eat wearing a Lanvin gown.  Witness this pic of Thandie Newton looking glam yet actually happy in her Lanvin.

In more day to day life, the justly famous ballet flats are so charming and yet so useful, that I have worn them everywhere from shopping at Neiman Marcus to my son’s T-Ball games. I feel pretty when I put them on and then I forget about it and just get on with my life. And isn’t that what every woman needs?

    Get them at Barney’s.

Thanks Alber, a blessing on your house.

Dejan Jankovic is a stunning male model from Zagreb, Croatia. Not only is he stunning, he really doesn’t seem to realize it. With his Greek God like features, crystal blue eyes and perfect physique, Dejan is also very sweet and incredibly humble. He also loves Jim Carrey, so what more do you want? I had the pleasure of being acquainted with Dejan recently. With his sincere nature and film star looks, Dejan is set to take the modeling world by storm. Dejan is oh-so-ready to continue his successful modeling career in the U.S, Paris and London.

Dejan kindly agreed to an interview, where I was able to ask him about his modeling career and other interests. Now I know ladies, you probably aren’t going to read any of this, so I’ve added a few pictures too.

Lisa : ” How old are you Dejan and where are you from?”

    Dejan: ” I’m 21 years old and I live in Zagreb,Croatia”

L: “  How did you start modeling?”

D: ” I was out shopping and a girl noticed me. She said I should be a model and drove me straight to a fashion designer! He said I was great and here I am! That was just a year ago!”

L: Who are your favourite female models?

D: I love Claudia Schiffer, Gisele Bundchen, Heide Klum…I would love to marry someone as beautiful as them!

L: Who are your favourite designers?

    D: D&G, Prada, Lanvin, Karl Lagerfield, Dior,Tom Ford…

L: This is an amazing shot. Weren’t you afraid of the snake?

D: I was scared at first! However after a taking a few photos I was fine. The snake was a great model and now we’re good friends!

L: What is fashion like in Croatia, how do you like to dress?

D: I love the fashion in Croatia. I love to dress casually, but if  I’m going out, I wear suits.

L: Apart from modeling, what are your other interests?

D: I love playing soccer, studying and hanging out with my friends

L: What would you like achieve in your modeling career?

D: I would like to do a big campaign for a famous brand…

Something tells me that big campaign is just around the corner.

If you would like to drool over more photos of Dejan or would like find out booking details (professional bookings only) visit Dejan’s Profile Page on The Style Mansion.

    Thanks Dejan! You’re a star!

    The Simpsons in Harper’s Bazaar

Remember when Marge Simpson bought that $90 Chanel suit (marked down from $2,800–now, that’s a Deal of the Day) to impress socialite contingent of Springfield? The poor thing had to work and rework that pink suit in order to make it look like more than one outfit. Well, here’s Marge’s vindication and in Harper’s Bazaar, no less. Not only does America’s fave mom get to pose with an animated Linda Evangelista, she also got an 8 page spread in the high fashion magazine. The works of Versace, Chanel, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Gaultier, and Victor & Rolfe are all featured in the spread. Check out Lagerfeld and Donatella.

    Priceless.
