Fashion Comes to The Great Wall of China

Quite spectacularly, The Great Wall of China was the backdrop for the most recent Fendi show. Karl Lagerfeld’s intention to stage the show at the World Heritage Site was announced in February, when he said, “It’s all about the opening of China, not just economically, but also from an artistic and cultural point of view.” Yet, even having all these months to get used to the idea didn’t prepare me for how amazing the whole event turned out to be.

It wasn’t the clothes so much as the staging that was so monumental. Actually, a lot of the designs were from the Milan show, with a small collection put together for this particular catwalk. But still, it was beautiful and glamorous, both qualities for which I am a sucker. And so is Kate Bosworth:

Every morning I wake up wondering, “Who’s going to design for H&M next?” Well, today I got my answer, and it’s official: Roborto Cavalli is coming to H&M! Cavalli, know for fantasy-driven designs, is creating a one-time H&M collection for both men and women. The line is scheduled to debut November 8 and will be available in 200 stores. Cavalli follows in the footsteps of Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolph, and Karl Lagerfeld, whose collections for the Swedish power house sold out in minutes.

H&M creative director Margaret van der Bosch had this to say about what to expect from the Cavalli endeavor: “There is no place for shyness and no possibility of ending up with a mainstream wardrobe of everyday basics. The Roberto Cavalli collections represent an exuberant, successful lifestyle.”
