Trendspotting: Gold Metallic Minidresses Under $50

    Kim Kardashian Gold Sequin Dress

Rise and shine!!! Metallics and mini dresses are back with a vengeance. The trend this season is sexy shine. As pictured Kim Kardashian and Elisa Dushku are showing us great examples of this trend done right. Forever 21 and American Apparel have some great alternatives we can all afford.

When choosing metallics there are a few things to consider:

    1. The type of material of the garment:  Fabrics with shine if not chosen wisely can come across as low quality (cheap). To prevent this, try the item on first. Is there a stretch to the fabric or do you just look like roll of aluminum foil?

    2. No Shine Overload:  I am all for glitz but sometimes there can be too much. If you are going to incorporate shine into your ensemble, please use discretion. Do not ever wear this fabric as a top and bottom. The fashion police will be called immediately. Choose one garment and stick to it.

    3. Have Fun:  Metallics are all about fun and making statement. So OWN IT AND BE FIERCE.

Wishes Wishes Wishes Border-Print Dress with Lace Trim

First:  Spice up the season with a little bohemian dress (or two). Macy’s priced this brown sundress at $58.00 originally but has dropped it down to only $17.99. That’s a steal and the lace trim is why I love it.

Second: This Forever21 dress is $19.80 (whoa, more than Macy’s?!). Pair it with a sunhat and big glasses to get that beach-friendly style or dare to try a mustard yellow (best color of the season!) cardigan and flats for a casual night out. Don’t forget to accessorize.

These stores offer discounted or even free shipping depending on how much or what you buy. Don’t believe me? Go see for yourself at Macy’s.com and Forever21.com.

Designer Inspired Look: Daryl K & Kerrigan

Daryl KGetting dolled up is always exciting. I think it’s one of the best parts about being a woman.  From four-inch heels to sequin mini dresses to vintage clutches, outfit possibilities are endless.  Aside from aching feet in the morning, I ask: what’s not to love?

I do love glamorous fashion just as much as the next girl, but comfort has always been a priority. So, on one of those sweltering days of summer, (which looms ahead) I would opt for this chic look by Daryl K & Kerrigan.

It’s such an easy look to imitate, and it’s one you can pull off any day of the week, all summer long.

Tip: go a size or two bigger in the AmApp tee to achieve the baggy runway look.

    Designer Inspired Look: Seeing Green

DVF runway shotSo, if you didn’t get the chance to plant a tree and celebrate Earth Day properly last month, don’t fret, for it’s never to late to go green! Before you bust out your re-usable shopping bags and recycling bins, make sure you are properly outfitted first!

My favorite runway look this week is from Diane Von Furstenberg’s Spring 2008 Ready-to-Wear collection. Not only do I love this shade of green, but the silhouette has a blousy, boho feel, and the headscarf gives the look a very cute 70’s vibe.

Not ready to drop some serious $$$ on DVF? The look below won’t break the bank and might leave you some leftover cash for those energy-saving light bulbs you’ve been meaning to pick up.

Valentine’s Day Fashion Picks: Top 5 Red Dresses

Posted February 4, 2008 by valentina
    Found in: Women's Fashion

I know! Red dresses on Valentine’s Day–how predictable! But, I’m thinking that it’s so obvious that it might actually be cool in an ironic way.  Plus, these dresses are cute any day.

Diane Von Furstenberg Coen Cashmere Dress, $495

Okay, so it’s a little lot pricey, but a red cashmere dress in a such a flattering shape.  Can you put a price tag on that???

Old Navy Black Leopard Dress, $29.50

Old Navy is really shaping up. Here’s something I’d actually want to wear from the discount chain.  This is also a really  subtle way to do red.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Raised Silk Twill Dress, $348

So, this isn’t a red dress, but it does boast a red sash.  That’s an easy way to get the V-day spirit, without feeling like a box of chocolates.

WD. NY Ponte Sleeveless Dress $49.00 (was $138)

There’s nothing wrong with a little Mondrian print on Valentine’s Day.  Is there?

Forever 21 Balloon Tube Dress, $22.80

Okay, so this isn’t red either, but hot pink on Valentine’s Day totally works! Totally!

Reader Question: Working the BCBGirls Flats for the Holidays

Posted November 14, 2007 by valentina

Yesterday, I featured the cutest flats from BCBGirls as the Deal of the Day (read the article down below this post). At $58 (down from $85), these patent leather babies were bound to steal a few hearts. I mean, they are the perfect holiday party go-to shoe for ladies who just can’t do high heels. The metal detailing makes them so right for a cocktail party!

Now, one reader, Christina, wants to know what to wear the flats with, saying “I want to have an awesome outfit to match these party shoes.” Okay, that’s easy since these shoes are so versatile. Here are my ideas:

milly jacquard dress Milly Dot Silk Jacquard Ruffle Dress, $340 (well, you are saving on the shoes!)

    Velvet Jacinda Dress, $108

    Emma Satin Dress, $24.80

Necessary Objects Cap Sleeve Jacquard Dress, $78

And if you’ve got the big bucks:

Jovavich-Hawk Viola Cashmere Sweater Dress, $685 (Gorgeous!)
