The O.C. Style: Flashback to Now

Posted September 19, 2008 by colleen

                                              The OC.jpg

Disregarding the suicidal spiral it went on before being kicked off the air, The O.C. used to be a legitimate guilty pleasure of sex, shopping and scandal. Please, they were more than scandalicious: Marissa and Summer were beacons of chic, accessible fashion. While Gossip Girl, the O.C. NYC version, prides itself on label-dropping, The O.C. was all about the pure look. Here’s how you can pay homage to your deceased homies.

Summer Lovin’: The pouty lips, self-confidence and sarcasm all bottled up in to one thing: powerful fashion choices. With Summer, it was all about mastering the balance of showing skin and staying in control. Here are some good options:

    Sequined Halter Top: $22.80

Skinny Zip Ankle Dark Jeans: $29.80

Flirty Heels - Madison Peeptoe Pump: $9.99 on sale

Moody Marissa: Alright, she wasn’t that bad, but her fashion was definitely more muted, contained, and pensive than Summer’s go-get’em spunk. To reinvent the Marissa look, go for flowing tops and flats…she never could be taller than Ryan.

    Loose, mute-colored top: $34.99

    Lapis Skinny Jeans: $29.99

    Retro Floral Flats: $18.99

Nothing better than a Winter deal on a Spring shoe–that’s what I always say.  I love it. And this is an exceptional deal, since these ‘Eylsa’ Flats from Two Lips are on sale for $31.90. That’s pretty great considering they’re leather and quite nicely detailed with cutouts and contrast stitching.  The best thing about them is that they come in Spring colors, like the super-hard-to-find navy and bronze.

A flat like this is great because it has a little bit of lift, and it’s casual enough to wear with shorts.  Yet, you can also throw them on with a skirt, of course.

Two Lips Elysa Flat, $31.90 (old price= $64.95)

Reva Deal: Snake this Tory Burch Ballet Shoe

Tory Burch’s Reva Flat really made a big splash this year in the world of trends. It’s no wonder, considering how perfect these shoes are and how well they go with everything.  So much so, that they may even shrug off their trend status and become full-fledged classics. If you’ve been waiting them out, now might be the time to attack since these snake skin Revas are on sale for a totally reasonable $157.50.

I know lots of ladies shy away from snake skin, which I don’t understand because I always think a bit of texture goes a long way.  A great way to wear flashy shoes is with a muted or monochromatic outfit. Try it! You might like it.

Tory Burch Reva Snake Skin Ballet Flat, $157.50 (they used to be $225).
