Dangly Earring Deal: A Great choice for the Season

Posted July 29, 2009 by desiree
Found in: Jewelry, Deal of the Day

It’s always a great time to wear dangly earrings. Why would you not? BUT, summer really feels like the right time to wear them, since its hot, and you can put your hair up and your dangly earrings can fall right above your bare, suntanned shoulders. There are some types of dangly’s meant for summer, and some that are meant for fall, winter and spring. The ones I’ve pick today…which are on sale for an excellent price are definitely summer time material.

Cara Accessories Beaded Chandelier Earrings originally priced at $28, on sale now for $15.90

These are a great deal. Earrings like this will last if you take care of them, unfortunately the base metal that’s used to make these will eventually start to change color if exposed to certain elements like salt, sweat, and heat. So, if you’re planning to wear them on your next night out on the town or with the girls at the club…go for it, but they may tarnish after a few times of this. Either way, 16 bucks is not a bad price for such a lovely accessory. What to wear these with…anything really. Of course, as I’ve mentioned before, I am a big fan of the dangly earrings with hair up in a bun, and a soft cotton t-shirt and shorts. No heels, usually sneakers, boots or flat sandals. If you want to wear them in a more feminine way, a white sundress would pair lovely with these. It doesn’t have to be white though, any old sundress would look good with these earrings because they aren’t too flashy. My favorite part about these, and what drew me to them at first glance was the square-like shape these earrings fall in. I like the thin wire and chains that were used, and that shade of turquoise that the beads are in is one of my favorites. They are simple, but yet detailed just enough to be the only accessory you’d need for the day or night. The reason I wouldn’t wear these in fall or winter is because the earrings just look too summery for me. Fall and winter is darker–you are wearing more layers of clothing, and a lot of hoop earrings come back, or just simple drop bead/jewel earrings are good enough accessory to wear. Pretty, chandelier earrings like these should be saved for spring, and summer.

Bazaar Exchange Earrings: A Summer Staple Piece

Posted June 9, 2009 by desiree

Every so often, I like to change up my look a bit.  Transform my style a little only sticking to a few key pieces that I will wear with everything, like a specific necklace or certain pair of earrings.  I think of Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw.  She never had a set style.  It was always changing like a chameleon and stayed completely eclectic.  One of the things I loved the most about Carrie’s style was that she stuck to a few signature pieces and wore them with everything throughout that season.  A great example was her iconic gold “Carrie” nameplate necklace.  Or the horseshoe necklace, or the amazing Patricia Field studded belt she wore throughout the entire Sex & the City Movie.  These were her little staples, the legendary Carrie trademarks.

    Carrie Bradshaw

For example, I have a long necklace with a gold vintage pendant that I found for $1 at a flea market.  I wear this necklace with almost everything, and it’s the only necklace I’ve worn for the last few months.  Another staple accessory of mine are a pair of hand beaded dangly earrings I purchased from a little shop on Sunset Blvd.  I go back and forth between the two, rarely wearing them together, but instead wearing one or the other with every outfit.  These have become my signature pieces.  I especially like pairing these accessories with super casual items like cut off jean shorts, and a big baggy t-shirt.  These Bazaar Exchange Earrings are a perfect example of something I would turn into a staple piece.  These would look fantastic with shorts and a t-shirt this summer and are a steal at $19.95, they were originally $28.00.

Fashion Accessorizing: Keeping it Chic, Not Shabby

Posted April 27, 2009 by desiree
Found in: Personal Pick of the Week, Handbags, Shoes

Yes, it’s true, sandal season is upon us…but flip flops aren’t exactly what I have in mind.  Spring is a good time to begin shopping around for fancy footwear that reveals your feet without getting too beachy.  Wedges are cool for spring fashion, and you can definitely carry them into summer when it arrives, sporting them with shorts, skirts, and jeans. I personally love the look of wedges with shorts, flowy blouses and a little jacket when it cools off in the evenings.  I would also opt for this style over traditional three-inch heels since they are going to be more comfortable and not so hard on the balls of your feet.

The Miz Mooz ‘Gizmo’ Platforms ($129.95) are one of my personal picks this week. Not only do these wedges look comfortable, but they are huarache-inspired with their tan woven leather and wooden platform.

Being obsessed with vintage inspired pieces that particularly look like they could have come from the 1970’s, my eye was instantly drawn to these shoes.  I would wear these with some cropped, fitted jeans that are cut right above the ankle.  This is a unique trend I noticed while in San Francisco, but I always wondered…how do you find pants that length?  Well the answer was simple after I began taking my jeans to a tailor to be altered.  This is a fun style for the warmer seasons if you’ve ever just been too hot to wear long jeans and kind of wanted to go for a 1950’s chic look. Try it…you’ll like it! Now, back to my remaining picks…

For months now I have been neglecting and rejecting stylish handbags, and instead resorted to hauling around a Marc Jacobs canvas tote bag instead.  As far as purpose goes, canvas totes are great, but they aren’t always very cute when you’re gettin’ dolled up for a night out.  So, I finally emptied mine out and bought a new purse.  A real purse again!  My choice was a fairly inexpensive vintage leather bag, simple with good color.  If I would’ve had a little more dough to work with I would have splurged on the L.A.M.B. ‘Darjeeling’ Small Flap Shoulder Bag, $345, Nordstrom.com

This bag is so mod! I love it. The colors and hardware are also very nautical inspired making it great for the summer months.

And now, my final personal pick for today are these stunning Stephen Dweck Agate earrings, $395, Neimanmarcus.com

    Agate Earrings

These are so beautiful! They would look fantastic with a casual long dress, but I personally like wearing fancy items like this with a worn in t-shirt and jeans with some little gold ballet flats. Combining a slightly rugged look with such a delicate accessory is a fashion risk worth taking.

    The Ice Queen Cometh

My ultra cool, well connected cousin from New York, has invited me on a trip to Sweden, where we will be staying in an ambassador’s house. My cousin through his good schooling, has rubbed shoulders with celebrities and such like for many of his 25 years. However, he seems totally unimpressed and underwhelmed by it all. He has driven his younger brother David and I to distraction when he ‘forgets’ to tell us that he went to a party and discussed basketball with Denzel Washington, has been invited to Paris to stay with one of his old college friends, whose father,  lives next door to Johnny Depp. He never bothered to mention that he was invited to meet Beyonce by Jay Z at their house. He has just returned from Isabella Rosselini’s house in Paris, invited by her glamorous daughter Electra. He is ever so blase about visiting the Hamptons whenever he goes.

Well I finally had enough and demanded that I be invited along somewhere or else! So we’re off to Sweden in the New Year. Now I know this trip does not necessarily involve meeting any Hollywood stars or even Johnny Depp, but I’m working on it. At least I will be staying in plush surroundings.  I also realize that at sub zero temperatures I have very little fashion scope to try and look glam. So I have decided that my only glam option is jewelery. Even if I am wrapped up in warm clothing to my eyeballs, I am hoping that these following pieces will help me twinkle a little bit!

Sterling Silver Star Earrings from Monaco, $117.59

    Filligree Earrings, $17.82

I will definitely look the part in this icy Charm Bracelet, handmade in Greece:

Dying your hair gray and cutting it like a boy (thank god everything was in black and white - her hair looks blond). But it’s not all bad. What’s it take to be an “It” girl?

Is Lauryn Hill the New Oprah?

Posted July 18, 2007 by valentina

Is it just me or did Lauryn Hill suddenly become the spitting image of Oprah? I think this is the exact look Oprah would have sported at a David Bowie concert in ‘76 or perhaps on a guest appearance on Solid Gold were she a singer. I’ve heard that her latest concerts have been somewhat erratic, but I like this crazy look–it’s very Bootsy Collins. Oh and tell me where to get those earrings. Rock and Roll!
