This week’s look comes to us from the Akris Resort 2009 collection. If you have a moment, definitely check out the entire line, it is stunning.

There are some really sleek and classy cocktail dresses that have sheer organza neck and hemlines, but this dress was one of my favorites. I loved the pleated skirt, and the drapey, sheer colored fabric that was used. This look could be imitated with a vintage slip and low-slung belt, but it is very reminiscent of an Ella Moss dress as well.

Moss is known for her super-soft jersey designs that hang comfortably and delicately on the body, a perfect throw-on when everything else is feeling too tight or sticky.

This black dress can be dressed up or down with jewelry.  It’s pretty simple so wear some bold earrings to dress it up.  It’s on sale for a great price, especially considering it can be worn on many different ocassions from a cocktail parties to weddings.

I love this leggy dress!  Maybe just because I’m leggy myself.  :)  It is a wool dress made with a percentage of cotton as well so it will breathe a little on the dance floor.  This dress is “EXCLUSIVELY at SAKS” and on sale for about 50% off!  Little black dresses like these never go out of style.

I really like the color of this sassy little number.  Unfortunately, there are no more on sale in my size. It also comes in ruby red & black.  I think this dress is perfect for cocktail parties or even weddings.  It’s simple & you can dress it up with jewelry or dress it down and wear a simple silver necklace.  Also, you can’t really tell by the model’s body (or lack there of), but it seems that it will show just the right amout of cleavage where you don’t look too provocative.

If there’s one night to really go for it in the wardrobe department, it’s New Year’s Eve. It’s a great time to sport some sequins without feeling like a human disco ball–it’s the last night of the year, and you’re allowed. At the same time, since you probably won’t get a ton of use out of a sequined ensemble, you’ll want to find a good deal. Oh, and if you can wear it to a couple of holiday parties (where you won’t be seeing the same crowd twice) you’ll really get your money’s worth.

The Nordstom Half Yearly Sale is on, and there’s lots of good stuff to gush over, as usual. If I have one money-saving tip as we approach the holiday season, it’s to take advantage of this event and others like it to outfit yourself for all those festive parties you’ll be attending.

Here are my top 5 chic little black dress picks from the sale:

If your fancy yourself a sophisticated party-goer, might I suggest the Diane von Furstenberg ‘Manca’ dress, $ 254.90 (old price= $425). The bell sleeves and that high neckline are delish when offset by a short hem. I’d pair it with some metallic shoes, opaque tights, and a flashy cocktail ring.

If you’re daring, this one-shoulder “Trudie” dress $238 (old price=$598) might be your thing. I love the delicately pleated skirt and all that texture on the bodice. I would play this look straight–it’s got enough embellishment, so there’s no need to add a bunch wow-worthy accessories.

If you’re too creative for all black, then shake things up with this Chetta B by Sherry Bloom and Peter Noviello sweater dress $115 (old price= $290). Maybe I’m a little too obsessed with brightly colored legwear, but wouldn’t this look so cute with a pair of purple tights? Do it!

If super-feminine frocks are your taste, this Maggy London Halter à la Marilyn Monroe $87 (old price=$148) might be to your liking. I like the gold hoops the folks at Nordstrom paired it with, but i believe a bracelet is in order too.

If you want to keep it simple and sexy, this Nicole Miller Bateau Neck Dress $212 (old price=$355) might be just the thing. I love the dreamy silhouette–a slim skirt offset by a blouson top. This is great for adding curves athletic body types. And it has pockets!
