When a client of a Japanese clothing company, Sanna’s wished for jeans that sat lower than her hips but will be snug enough not to require constant pulling up, Designer Sandra Tanimura let her creative juices flow and came up with low risers held up by bikini strings-voila!  Bikini jeans were born!

The style has become quite a hit in Japan and is all set to take off in Europe.  Will United States be next?  While the cut might flatter a stick thin figure, won’t a simple belt be a more flattering and reasonable solution for normal women, some wonder?  Then of course there is the case of not wearing under wear.  How many of us will be comfortable with that?

Lately I have noticed a lot of influences from the 80’s that are coming back such as neon colors, the whole sneaker culture, big hair and more. Even though this fashion style is clearly from the 80’s they still look modern and look good on many of us. On the other hand I’m not to cheerful on the return of shoulder pads. That look is so outdated plus I don’t think anybody suits this look, not even Victoria Beckham!

What the heck!?  I love just about everything you have to offer, American Apparel.  The quality of your clothing is awesome & so SOFT!  Why, why, why did you decide this swimsuit would be flattering…on anyone.  Not to mention the morbid tan lines that come from wearing such random designs.  I immediately thought of Borat when I saw this swimsuit.

Speaking or random designs, I do like this Nylon Tricot Le Sport Chic Swimsuit ($42)

The design is cute & it doesn’t look like you decided to stretch your undies over your head!  I suppose I wouldn’t mind the weird tan lines from wearing this swimsuit.

So PETA really, really doesn’t like the Olsen twins and their wardrobe decisions.  The animal rights group known for their zealous protests made their distaste very clear this week when they unveiled their Meet the Trollsens website.   The whole site is dedicated to chastising Hairy-Kate and Trashley Trollsen (as they call them)  for wearing fur.

The site has a lot of features, including a section where you can dress the twins up in bloody fur jackets, dresses, purses, and hats.  You can also send the Olsens a letter, urging them to stop wearing fur and selling it in their clothing line The Row. And if that’s not enough for you, there’s also a myspace dedicated to the Trollsens. Pretty intense.

Oh my.  I don’t know what to say about this.  I personally don’t wear fur, but I’m not officially against it since I wear leather and eat meat on a daily basis. However, I do sympathize with PETA’s cause and marvel at their publicity machine.

More than anything, I think the whole thing is kind of funny, and I bet the Olsens think it is too.  What do you think?

Oh, just look at her, poor Posh is beside herself. And that was just the first look, which was a black dress ornamented with silly string appliqué. Imagine how she felt when she got wind of these accessories:

This purse looks dangerous. I can see myself tripping over those multi-colored strings and causing serious damage.  Not that I would carry it in the first place.

Talk about killer heels.  These look more life-threatening than the handbag above.  The last thing women need is a heel that’s harder to walk in.  The backwards heel is just silly, and the other one looks like a recipe for disaster. If you trip in that thing, you will die a catapulting death.
Now, the best thing about this hairband (?) is the Goody metal barrette attached to it.  Wow.

It wasn’t all bad though, there were definitely some gems in the bunch, which you can see on Style.com.

Now I love a whimsical bag as much as the next girl, and I’m all for taking risks with  accessories, but this Chopard handbag just makes me want to eat Pepperidge Farm goldfish snack crackers.  The materials are beautiful–the grained calf leather looks luscious–but the fish-shaped hardware just doesn’t do it for me. In fact, this bag would have been about a million times better without it, but still not worth the $520 asking price, in my opinion (it’s mostly canvas).  Maybe it’ll be a hit among the religious?

Our Smarter Gadget writer, Nick, just turned me onto Joo Youn Paek’s inflatable dress. Well, really, it’s a dress/chair. Why does the “Self-Sustainable Chair” exist, you ask? The designer created the piece to break the monotony of plain old walking, preferring the varied experience this dress offers as it inflates and deflates with the help of air pumps attached to the shoes. The result is that the dress transforms into a chair, forcing the wearer to sit mid-walk. In turn, the act of sitting deflates the 7 garbage bags that the garment is made of.

In Joo Youn Paek’s own words:

The balance between exercise and rest would be maintained by wearing this suit. The purpose of this project is to transform the humdrum experiences produced by routine walking commutes into an amusing interactive performance.

I say, fair enough. The dress showed yesterday at Unravel, a “living exhibition of fashion…seeking to redefine the notion of ‘wearable’” staged by Amanda Parks in San Diego.
