Beyonce is one of the most graceful, yet strong role models of our generation.

She saved the show last night after Kanye West was being his egotistical self when he ruined Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech by saying that Beyonce should have won Best Female Video of the Year.

Graciously, she gave up her allotted time to speak when she won Best Video of Year and let Taylor have her moment.

She looked very lavish in her short, frilled, and very low cut dress with oversized accessories–but her actions were charming, classy, and genuinely humble.

Not only is she a great role model because of her stunning personality but she’s also always got it pulled together fashion-wise as well. Her black pumps gave a sexy touch to her red dress. Her outfit was sophisticated and bold–just like Beyonce herself. She cleverly wore only a few pieces of jewelry to compensate for the large size of her earrings and bracelets. We can all learn a thing or two from Beyonce–we can definitely see her halo!

During these tough economic times, Harvard University has been pulling all the stops to ensure that their students have everything they need–and much, much more. More than half of the entire population of Harvard students is receiving financial aid by the school. How are they making all this money? They’ve come up with their own line of branded Harvard clothing, which is making bank.

They really need to be delivering this kind of information to 9th graders–it’s a great incentive because most students believe Harvard is too far off as a possibility since it’s a private school. In the article, one English major said that his education has not only been virtually free–but okay are you ready for this? The university actually gave him a laptop and a stipend for winter coats. That’s right–you get to shop on the university’s dime. Amazing.

One of my best friends is attending Yale and she says there’s nothing of that sort happening there–so it’s not an Ivy League thing–it’s just a Harvard club thing. That Harvard emblem has a ridiculous amount of worth. Wearing something from Harvard is a sign that you’re high class, successful, and let’s be honest, maybe a little pretentious.

And so the rich get richer.

Here’s some of the preppy style Harvard clothing. The designs are very sophisticated, but of course, completely over priced. The line is entitled “Harvard Yard.” You can see more of the NY Times fashion slide show here.

This is the face of the most powerful woman in fashion.

Anna Wintour, 59, has been editor-in-chief of the US Vogue Magazine since 1988. She’s seen it all, done it all and has more experience in the fashion industry than any other living woman in the US. Even the most extravagant designers, such as Oscar de la Renta and Ralph Lauren, run some of their designs by her.

It’s Anna Wintour who decides when green is the new black.

She’s notorious for her icy stare and tyranny in the workplace. Who can blame her right–the fashion industry is one of the most fast-paced, stressful environment and she reigns over it all. Even the higher ups in the fashion will do anything she says at the drop of a hat. She’s just THAT powerful. So how does one exactly deal with that much power?

Now, we finally get the chance to observe a slice of her upscale, fast-paced life. She agreed to a camera crew filming her production of the 2007 September issue of Vogue and two years later, director RJ Cutler has finally finished the final cut. It’s not a reality show–Anna’s too classy for that. It’s a documentary to show viewers exactly what goes into producing a full issue of Vogue.

Her assistants are the writers of the hit film Devil Wears Prada, of which Anna is undoubtedly the inspiration. We finally get to really see all that goes on behind the cat walk in a real life Devil Wears Prada.

I really respect all of her talent and experience–but I just can’t help but notice–if she’s such a powerful icon head, why has her look and style failed to change over time? She’s always seen wearing her Chanel black sunglasses and hasn’t changed her bobbed hair cut with straight-across-bangs in several decades. I guess it’s her signature mark, but I’d get kind of sick of that rut really fast if I were her.

Here’s a homage to the fashion queen that was printed in French Vogue , which I guess is a pretty classic look:

And in case you are wondering who will inherit this empire, her daughter Katherine Shaffer is following Anna’s very larger-than-life footsteps:

She is one lucky girl!
She’s currently a student at Columbia University and is likely to be a fashion icon in the near future.

MTV will be airing a new reality TV series tomorrow that will feature Jazmin Whitley–the youngest fashion designer ever to be showcased in New York fashion week.

The point of the show is to give viewers a first-hand insight about what it actually takes to make it into the fashion designing industry.

The show, entitled House of Jazmin, will follow Jazmin’s life as she learns to cope with being only 20 and handling the duties of her own clothing line, “Li Car.” She describes her line as “sophisticated, chic, and versatile.”

Jazmin was a girl who turned her dreams into a reality. She’s accomplished more in just a few years than what thousands of aspiring designers hope to accomplish in their entire life.

At age 17, Jazmin showcased her own fashion show at her high school and later began creating pieces for socialites. Soon, her talent was recognized and she showcased her 36-piece line at an LA fashion week show in 2006. According to her official website, Jazmin showcased her spring summer ‘07 line at the age of 19 and continued to tour between LA and NY. She’s been featured in countless magazines and attracted top socialites including Christina Ricci and Mandy Jiroux.

Now she has her own reality show.

I’m excited to see her try and deal with such a high-profile career. This has potential to be really useful for those of you who are heavily interested in the fashion industry. The show will also star Jazmin’s mother who is also her manager, who, of course, has a hard time separating her two roles. I think this show has potential as long as it strays away from focusing on her life as a 20-year-old and more towards her actual talent and acquisition.

The show will air at 10:30 PM Tuesdays on MTV.

The fashion world lost a revolutionary icon today. Legendary fashion model Naomi Sims died of breast cancer at the mere age of 61.

As one of the first US black models, Naomi Sims was a pioneer in putting dark beauty on the map with her breakthrough 1968 Ladies’ Home Journal cover shot.
She’s basically my hero. During a time when the media favored Caucasians, modeling agencies continuously denied Naomi and told her that her skin was too dark.

Despite this prejudice, Naomi pushed forward and worked hard to prove to the world that ‘Black is Beautiful.’ She took matters in her own hand and didn’t let others use the color of her skin as a disadvantage. She approached photographers herself and soon after that, the world couldn’t deny her talent and beautiful photographs. She soon found top designers approaching her to model for them.

I really admire her confidence and ability to take control without ever losing her determination. It’s icons like her that helped us realize that dark skin is just as beautiful. By helping place dark beauty on the map, she also paved the way for an entirely different and more ethnically varied style of fashion.

I love them all except for Rami, who I have a one-sided personality conflict with. I like Jillian the best, but it’s fairly obvious that Christian is probably going to take it all–he’s jerky but talented.

Next week is the reunion show. Can’t wait!

While I will admit that I’ve gotten a certain amount of sick pleasure from watching The Hills, I must say that I don’t understand the lingering “fame” of its “stars.” I really don’t get why anyone would buy Lauren Conrad’s clothing, and the same goes for Heidi Montag’s upcoming line for Anchor Blue.

I haven’t been into Anchor Blue since it was called Miller’s Outpost, but what I see in the display window doesn’t ever thrill me. I guess everyone else feels the same way because the company is so desperate that it’s looking to Montag to help revamp its lackluster image. (Wait, what part of her resume qualifies her for this?) However ill-conceived, Anchor Blue’s plan is to target a new demographic, shifting it’s focus from the 14-18 year-old market to the 16-21 year old market with Montag in tow.

The collection, dubbed Heidiwood and set for release in Spring, will include apparel and accessories. Two more lines will follow.
