Rise and shine!!! Metallics and mini dresses are back with a vengeance. The trend this season is sexy shine. As pictured Kim Kardashian and Elisa Dushku are showing us great examples of this trend done right. Forever 21 and American Apparel have some great alternatives we can all afford.

When choosing metallics there are a few things to consider:

1. The type of material of the garment: Fabrics with shine if not chosen wisely can come across as low quality (cheap). To prevent this, try the item on first. Is there a stretch to the fabric or do you just look like roll of aluminum foil?

2. No Shine Overload: I am all for glitz but sometimes there can be too much. If you are going to incorporate shine into your ensemble, please use discretion. Do not ever wear this fabric as a top and bottom. The fashion police will be called immediately. Choose one garment and stick to it.

3. Have Fun: Metallics are all about fun and making statement. So OWN IT AND BE FIERCE.

Her dresses are all very clean cut, and symmetric. I notice that a lot of tabloids and magazines still refer to her as “Posh” –even decades after the notorious Spice Girls movie. It’s been decades–I think it’s time to move on. Even though the word “posh” would be a very fitting description of her designs, her new collection is far from the 90’s girl band fashion trend. Here are some of her designs for the Spring 2010 collection:

It’s some sort of plague that’s happening all across the celebrity world. Serena Williams, lawmaker Joe Wilson, Kanye West, and now Linsay Lohan.

Apparently, the seating arrangement was unacceptable for Lindsay Lohan. So, she threw the place cards of Juliette Lewis and Christian Siriano on the ground and demanded that she be seated at a more prominent place.

She’s a “fashion adviser” for a french line that’s showcased in Fashion Week.
But what I would like to comment on is the way Lindsay decided to look coming to a high profile fashion show.

Her hair is untamed and the blond color looks very washed out and does not compliment her fair skin. She’s wearing and an orangy blush and lip color that also looks mismatched withe her face color. I haven’t seen that many metal bracelets on a girl since Degrassi.

There’s just no style, no charisma. Her jewelry looks like it could be found at Spencers.

What exactly is she doing at a fashion show again?

Emma Watson wants to help alleviate poverty through fashion by the way of fair trade clothing. Fair trade is a market-based method focused on helping product manufacturers in third world countries. The idea is to pay more for goods and help developing countries become more self-sufficient.

Emma promotes such ethical principles. It incorporates a moral obligation to assist struggling manufacturers overseas, rather than the big named brands that are manufactured in the US.

The Harry Potter actress told Chron Entertainment that she’s an advocate of this ethical style clothing, except it’s typically too ugly.

She explained in the article, “I wanted to help People Tree produce a younger range because I was excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to alleviate poverty and knew it was something I could help make a difference with. I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian and environmental issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices, but there aren’t many options out there.”

Well it’s true that she’s yet another actress turned designer, at least she’s got a noble cause in mind.

The NY Fashion Week runway isn’t the only place you can find hints of neon, bright 80s trend.

The upcoming Sex and the City sequel contains scenes of flashback that take the women who are now in their 40s-50s back to their youthful prime. This might alone save the makeup industry from this recession–the crew will have to use gallons of a LOT of product to pull this off.

I absolutely loved the first Sex and the City and thought that the fashion and style in Carrie & Big’s wedding was remarkable.

But here’s a sneak peek of their rendition of what the girls looked like in their 20’s:

Can we all just look at her hair for a second…and who wears tennis shoes with a suit?

It’s a cute concept–taking them back to the first years of their dating days. But, it’s also kind of saddening. The idea that they’ve spent two decades running around trying to find love. Now, *spoiler alert* apparently Big & Carrie might be having problems because the camera crew has been filming at Carrie’s NY apartment a lot lately.

If this story doesn’t have a happy ending–all of this is going to be over kill.

Beyonce is one of the most graceful, yet strong role models of our generation.

She saved the show last night after Kanye West was being his egotistical self when he ruined Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech by saying that Beyonce should have won Best Female Video of the Year.

Graciously, she gave up her allotted time to speak when she won Best Video of Year and let Taylor have her moment.

She looked very lavish in her short, frilled, and very low cut dress with oversized accessories–but her actions were charming, classy, and genuinely humble.

Not only is she a great role model because of her stunning personality but she’s also always got it pulled together fashion-wise as well. Her black pumps gave a sexy touch to her red dress. Her outfit was sophisticated and bold–just like Beyonce herself. She cleverly wore only a few pieces of jewelry to compensate for the large size of her earrings and bracelets. We can all learn a thing or two from Beyonce–we can definitely see her halo!

As much as I hate watching prissy, spoiled girls run around, it’s definitely worth checking out stylist Eric Daman’s design. He’s the one that dresses and accessorizes these New York beauty queens and every show, it’s fun to see what preppy ensemble he’ll think of next.

For instance, I really liked the light, earthy tones that Leighton Meester wore in a scene once. I’ve noticed that Eric Daman is obsessed with unique tights/leggings. These lacy black tights go really well with her crop jacket. Her gray ruffled clutch really pulls her outfit together. Eric never fails to add the minute details to every outfit. Here, her thin gold headband and long chain don’t particularly stand out, but still add to her ensemble.

Blake Lively’s clothes don’t particularly stand out to me in comparison to the rest of the cast, but in this scene, her flowy peasant dress is really captivating. She didn’t accessories too much because the fine details and embroidery of the dress do the job. She’s got this little pouch thing hanging from her dress that’s really interesting and convenient. It somehow doesn’t look out of place. Very elegant and not too over the top.

Finally, this on-screen fashionista is always sporting the cute, homemade punk meets prep outfits. I like the way her look fits her personality. She’s probably the least arrogant of all the girls and her outfits seem to tell a story. Her messenger bag, plaid shirt dress, and french beanie scream down to earth yet still stylish.

Last night, the 2009 daytime Emmy’s took place and, of course, I was more focused on the evening wear than the awards themselves. I mean who watches daytime television anymore anyway. The following are a few outfits that I thought were particularly notable.

First up, Tyra Banks won the first ever award for most informative talk show.

For a notable fashion icon, Tyra’s red carpet look wasn’t as appealing as I thought it would be. The top doesn’t seem to be supporting her chest at all and the biggest problem I have with this outfit is the fact that her hair is the same awkward, pale color as her dress. The beige doesn’t flatter her skin tone because it’s far too light and makes her appear washed out. The bottom beaded train is really pretty but the rest of the outfit just kills it.

This Clean House star Niecy Nash wore a lovely yellow fitted dress that really flattered her overall shape over body. This dress is perfect because it hugs her in the right places without revealing too much. Also, I’m absolutely in love with yellow on dark skin! It’s such a radiant combination.

I don’t care how old you are, but it’s never okay to have wings coming out of your top. Jeanne Cooper from Young and the Restless looks like she’s pitching a tent on the red carpet.

Kassie DePaiva from One Life to Live’s outfit was probably my favorite. For her age and the occasion, this white, stylish dress is both flattering and modern. In 90 degree weather, this was a very smart choice and she looks great in it.

Ashley Olsen is a classic example of why celebrities should not be entitled to their own fashion line–just because they can.

In July of 2009, Ashley Olsen was quoted in an interview saying that she’s giving up acting for fashion.

She told Hamptons Magazine: “I used to be in the entertainment industry. And now I feel passionate about the fashion industry. I understand what it takes to make a brand and to have an eye for product that sells.”

It’s only been a few months since she switched to becoming a full time fashion designer and Ashley says that now she doesn’t know how long she’s going to stick it out in the fashion industry, according to the NY Fashion Magazine.

Sure it was cute when she and her sister had their own line of practically everything that a pre-teen girl would buy. From hair straighteners with their twin faces on them to glittery jeans–that was all fun and games. Now that Ashley’s had some experience dealing with the real high fashion industry with their new adult line “The Row,” Ashley said she doesn’t like how cutthroat the industry really is.

Ashley told NY Fashion Magazine:

“(In the fashion world) everyone is just really looking out for themselves. I don’t know if I’ll be designing this collection forever. A couple of years from now, I’m sure I’ll want to do something else, and I’m not going to shy away from that.

“What if I just want to be an artist, or if I want to go back to acting? Which is not in the cards, but what if I wanted to do that?”

What a flip flopper.

If you look at her new adult line, it’s really altogether boring and obviously trying to be adult. You can tell that they made a strenuous effort to step out of their pink little girl shells and tried to come up with “grown up” clothing. They’re really not up to par with real, professional designers. The following are some pieces from Ashley’s adult line. Check ‘em out before Ashley throws in the towel:

Her pieces all have a weird Gothic yet professional flare to them–and that combination doesn’t really work.

As we celebrate the nostalgia of free love and self expression, on the 40 Year Anniversary of Woodstock, maybe its time to ask ourselves if our personal wardrobes reflect influences from this colorful, eclectic 60’s era. Some would say “YES” with gutso. Some might cringe at the idea. But most of us probably have had some type of Woodstock worthy clothing even if we don’t want to admit it to ourselves. I would never in a million years call my personal style as bohemian. Most of my pieces tend to be structured with contemporary silhouettes. I try to shy away from outlandish floral, ruffles and fringes. I look like a dork in vests and can never pull off a fringed suede jacket. But when I sit down and think about it, I do get most compliments on the occasions that I choose to stray away from my self inflicted monotonous habitude and reach for that sequined tunic, that embroidered skirt or that flower power dress. And I love me some denim and fancy boots! I suppose the departure from the regular professional, almost “expected” garb gives out a pleasing vibe of creativity and non-conformity that inspires respect. It sends the message of unruffled individuality as if you can stand up for what you believe in even if it is outside the norm.

There are still certain aspects of the Woodstock style that I would never dare sport, like the long stringy hair or ripped jeans. Thankfully designers over the years have mastered the art of tasteful interpretations of the movement that hits the right note between delightful and pitiful (yes, if you are not careful, you can end up looking like a homeless person).

So, don’t be afraid to add a little hippie to your look and wait for the compliments to roll in. A peasant blouse balanced with a military inspired cargo pant, or a patchwork purse splashed against a white button down gives an unexpected funky appeal to set you apart from the rest of the gang.Think you need more persuasion? Sure, I can try:

1. It, of course, wouldn’t hurt that you will be right on trend this season. While seasoned beauties like Drew Barrymore, Siena Miller and Kate Hudson have long since epitomized hippie chic, young starlets like Miley Cyrus , Vanessa Hudgens and Lauren Conrad have rocked the look this summer with super short denim shorts, long layered gold chains , flowy dresses and gypsy tunics.

2. You will be politically correct. Weren’t those earth embracing anti-establishment young people of the 70’s the ones who started the shift towards eco-friendly clothing that all and sundry are embracing today? Yes, hippie chic also could mean nature inspired, environmentally safe , organic and all that good stuff. Of course, everything is a matter of interpretation.

3. Most department stores and online retailers have stocked up on this popular trend and what’s more they are currently a Mega sale. You might as well invest in a couple of pieces when you decide to update your everyday wardrobe.

Here are some sweet ideas for those times when you want to turn on the haute-hippie charm:
