    Project Runway Finalists

Posted February 15, 2008 by valentina
    Found in: Breaking News

Here’s the final four on Project Runway. Supposedly, only three are going to get the chance to show at Fashion Week, but since it just passed, we already know that all of them AND Sweet P showed their collections. I’m glad about that because Sweet P was good.

I love them all except for Rami, who I have a one-sided personality conflict with. I like Jillian the best, but it’s fairly obvious that Christian is probably going to take it all–he’s jerky but talented.

Next week is the reunion show. Can’t wait!

    Heidi Montag for Anchor Blue

While I will admit that I’ve gotten a certain amount of sick pleasure from watching The Hills, I must say that I don’t understand the lingering “fame” of its “stars.” I really don’t get why anyone would buy Lauren Conrad’s clothing, and the same goes for Heidi Montag’s upcoming line for Anchor Blue.

I haven’t been into Anchor Blue since it was called Miller’s Outpost, but what I see in the display window doesn’t ever thrill me. I guess everyone else feels the same way because the company is so desperate that it’s looking to Montag to help revamp its lackluster image. (Wait, what part of her resume qualifies her for this?) However ill-conceived, Anchor Blue’s plan is to target a new demographic, shifting it’s focus from the 14-18 year-old market to the 16-21 year old market with Montag in tow.

The collection, dubbed Heidiwood and set for release in Spring, will include apparel and accessories. Two more lines will follow.

Handbag Deal: Andrew Marc’s Laidback Hobos

How great are these hobos from Andrew Marc? They remind me of Sweetarts. I love the laid back appeal contrasted with striking colors–that purple is delicious! They’re so simple yet lovely and wearable year ’round. I’d love to pair one with a monochromatic outfit for extra punch. Aaaah! I really, really want one. So much personality!

Andrew Marc Large Leather Hobo. $236 (old price= $395)

Grammy Award Fashion: Hits & Misses

Posted February 11, 2008 by valentina

Wow! I actually sat through the entire Grammy Award ceremony last night. That hasn’t happened since I was a New Kid fan–you know, when I would watch every last second to make sure I didn’t miss even one glimpse of Donnie or Jordan. But last night was fun! Amy Winehouse, Kanye West, Tina Turner, and Cindy Lauper! It was like Christmas.

Now, for the fashion. Let’s just say there were a few hits and misses:

MISS: I hate to be mean to Nelly Furtado because I’ve always liked her music (even her second album…well, sort of), but this dress tests the limits of my affection. It’s time for some tough love. What was her stylist thinking? It’s a pretty color, but didn’t anyone take her body type into consideration when choosing a gown for the biggest night in music? And you know that she’s not comfortable in this thing either–hands on thighs are always a dead giveaway for “I’m afraid this dress in unflattering.” Oh Nelly, they did you wrong!

EH: I can’t decide if this is a hit or miss exactly. It’s definitely flattering, which isn’t usually a problem for Beyonce. I just wish this woman would wear something other than metallics, like maybe a color. Although I don’t know if powder blue chiffon is the answer. The top looks like it’s melting.

Hit: I like it. Florals are in, and this halter dress works well on Carrie Underwood. It’s kind of perfect for Carrie’s sexy-girl-with-a-weentzy-bit-of-bad-girl image.

Minus the shoes, this is a Hit. I love a short dress for the Grammys. Gowns are okay, but an interesting little dress is better. I like this color on Corinne Bailey Rae, but the shoes look more career than biggest music event of the year.

Miss: I love the color on Fergie, but I”m nervous about what’s going on atop. It’s also pretty boring–it looks like a banana peel, which is an obvious if unfortunate risk when you wear a yellow sheath dress.

Hit: I accept that I’m probably alone in this, but I liked Fantasia’s Grammy look. The dress is super flattering and edgy. The hair? I don’t know, it just works for me…maybe she’s the new Patty Labelle of R&B. At least stylewise.

    Dress Deal: Velvet Torch Dress

Posted February 7, 2008 by valentina
Found in: Women's Fashion, Deal of the Day

Aw…this dress. I love the color, and I love the way they’ve styled it. It’s so simple and completely versatile–you really could wear it for a lot of occasions. It’s a good day to night, work to weekend number. It’s one of those effortless dresses that makes you look put together pretty simply. I’ve been considering it for a while, and now it’s only $37.90. That’s chump change when you think of all the wear you’ll get out of it.

NY Fashion Week Fall ‘08: Johnson & Jacobs

Here’s the latest from Fashion Week Fall 08:

Betsey Johnson was her classic self, with an over-the-top, but still pretty wearable collection. I loved everything about it, from the beatnik theme to the sampling of every decade since Kerouac and the beat ruled the underground. Check it out!

At Marc by Marc Jacobs, punky plaid, zipper details and voluminous collars were on display. Bows, sequins and….are those pantaloons I see?
