Yes We Can!!
Forgive me for the late entry. I’ve been celebrating the success of President Barack Obama. God, it feels so good to type it! Watching him make his acceptance speech brought joyful tears, along with the clinking of champagne glasses, and the crackling of roman candles…ahh what a NIGHT! But before this gets too political—(or any less fashion-oriented) let’s talk a little bit about Michelle Obama, and the icon she represents now, for the United States of America.

Michelle Obama is an image of a strong woman. An educated woman. A diverse woman, of both origin and view. Her fashion reflects that. She follows the traditional, acceptable strain of First Lady fashion: solid colors, modest hems, and the occasional pearl necklace or two. But our now First Lady has a style to be reckoned with, my friends. It’s an acceptance of both her own body type and figure, and the figure she represents for the American people.
Think you have what it takes to emulate First Lady fashion? Take a look at some of these statement-making finds:
Silk Ruffled Dress: pair with your grandmother’s pearls and you’re White House worthy.

Modest Khaki Trench with a flattering skirted bottom: versatile, yet fresh and modern.

And for your (or your partners) acceptance speech, dazzle them with your own sense of strength. Try a color that’s not usually seen on the presidential palette. Make a bold statement and stand up for your image as much as you stand up for your right to vote: Congratulations on Election Day, and may good fortune come to all of those strong enough to stand up for it. Yes we Can!

What I have seen her wear to date, does not impress me at all. Hope she does better in the future.
