The Worst “Sexy” Celebrity Halloween Costumes

Posted October 31, 2007 by valentina

Just because they’re celebrities doesn’t mean they have good Halloween Costume ideas. In fact, these are some of the worst I’ve seen. Really, the whole over-the-top-sexy costume is so tired and especially on celebs (that means you, Dennis Rodman). Hello! Don’t they get enough attention already?

I present to you this year’s Icky Halloween Costume Hall of Shame:

Britney Spears goes as a”sexy” wench.

Aubrey O’Day goes as a “sexy” football player in clear heels.

    Averil Levigne goes as a…..?

Paris Hilton goes as a “sexy” Alice in Wonderland, which seems a tad inappropriate considering Alice is suppose to be a child! Leave it to Paris.

Dennis Rodman as a poorly dressed woman.

    Jacket Deal: Ladylike Leather

As a self-professed sale watcher, I have to say that this year has seen some of the best price reductions I’ve ever seen. Take this Curve Yoke Leather Jacket from Classiques Entier, a Nordstrom brand that I find ridiculously flattering. I’ve been stalking this little number for some time now, and it’s finally gone from $390 to $209.

Why am I so smitten by this leather jacket? Well, first of all, those sleeves are 3/4, which makes it pretty versatile–you can wear it indoors as a blazer and outside as outerwear depending on the climate you live in. That collar is also pretty tasty because sometimes a leather jacket can be overwhelming, especially on a petite figure, so the roundness lightens things up.

It’s the kind of thing that will bring great joy for years.

    Gimme:Cleo & Patek Tuscany Briefcase

I can’t get enough of this Cleo & Patek Tuscany Briefcase, $172.99.  The super-clean, brilliantly simple design of this bag charms me to no end.  It’s also the lemon yellow color that keeps me coming back to it, although it looks pretty sharp in cognac (translation:tan), too.

I don’t really have much to keep in a briefcase, but I’d be willing to pretend for this handbag. It’s also a perfect job interview accessory–it says “this woman’s got it together.”

If you live in LA or close by, you’ll want to head out to the Exhale spa in Santa Monica for “Be Well, Think Pink,” which takes place tomorrow between 4 and 7pm. The event will raise money for breast cancer research and include a variety of trunk shows, including clothes, jewelry and apothecary delights from local businesses. To sweeten the pot, they’ve also added wine tasting from Hope Wine and appetizers from Urban Palate catering.

Breast cancer prevention is also a key part of “Be Well, Think Pink” with a doctor onsite to educate about self exams. Mini therapies by Exhale staff will also be part of the mix.

Find out more here and visit Exale’s official website.

Bag Deal: Cole Haan Convertible Tote

I really love the color of this Cole Haan handbag and all the cute details. The buckle is adjustable, so you can cinch the top for a different look, and it also has a removable shoulder strap, which I prefer because I like options. Notice how good it looks with grey (a.k.a. this season’s “it” color).

Were this bag mine, I’d use it to finish off a grey American Apparel v-neck and dark jeans tucked into tan riding boots. My oh my, would I look cute!

Cole Haan ‘Village Medium Convertible’ Tote, $283.90

Fashion Comes to The Great Wall of China

Quite spectacularly, The Great Wall of China was the backdrop for the most recent Fendi show. Karl Lagerfeld’s intention to stage the show at the World Heritage Site was announced in February, when he said, “It’s all about the opening of China, not just economically, but also from an artistic and cultural point of view.” Yet, even having all these months to get used to the idea didn’t prepare me for how amazing the whole event turned out to be.

It wasn’t the clothes so much as the staging that was so monumental. Actually, a lot of the designs were from the Milan show, with a small collection put together for this particular catwalk. But still, it was beautiful and glamorous, both qualities for which I am a sucker. And so is Kate Bosworth:

Okay, now it’s your turn: At what international monument or site would you stage a fashion show?  Can little ‘ol you top Lagerfeld?

Denim Deal: Rich & Skinny Jeans

These Rich & Skinny (I know, but I think they’re being ironic) jeans have the perfect silhouette–they’re kind of like those old Levis Sta-Prest jeans. When pants have a higher waist and a flared leg like this, the effect is really elongating and flattering on a lot of body types, from curvy to lanky. It’s also nice that there are so many jeans out now without distressing or faux fading since a nice, dark even wash seems so fresh at the moment.

Boutique of the Week: Gallery Couture

Gallery Couture is the brainchild of brothers David and Afshin Haghani, who have been bringing “good taste” to Long Island’s Gold Coast since the opening of their first shop in 1991. Now, with two stores under their belts–the Haghanis made their second retail endeavor in 2001– each season their offerings include must-have pieces by designers like Nanette Lepore, Robert Rodriguez, Elie Tahari, Rebecca Taylor and lots more.

While David Haghani is the business mind of Gallery Couture, Afshin Haghani is the buyer and the man behind the look of the boutique. Well traveled, Afshin keeps his fashion savvy well tuned with trips to Europe and Asia, where he checks out upcoming collections, cutting-edge designs and emerging trends. The super chic results of such research are seen in the fine contemporary fashions and designer clothing that grace the racks of the exclusive shop.

But you don’t have to make a trip to Long Island to shop Gallery Couture because they’re online now too. Thank goodness for technology, huh? First time customers get 10 % off on their first purchase when they type in 0808 at checkout. Oh, and I’ll pass on a tip from the Gallery Couture staff and regulars: “if you love it, buy it” because their inventory moves quickly.

Here are some of the Gallery Coutures’ favorites for the season:

M Missoni Long Cardigan, $795 Robert Rodriguez Jersey Chiffon Top, $295 Diane von Furstenberg Lluvia Dress, $295
