    T-Shirts Worth Wearing

Posted June 29, 2007 by valentina
    Found in: Women's Fashion

T-shirts are a great thing–they’re comfy and breathable–but there’s nothing less flattering than a shapeless or baggy tee on a woman or a man. The key to looking great in a summer tee is finding one that fits your body and doesn’t have the name of a construction company or the local sub shop on it (unless it’s fitted and vintage). Find a fashionable tee in a color that makes you glow and a fit that wows. And it doesn’t have to have a crew neck to be a t-shirt, so try a boat neck or a scoop neck for a more attractive look.

    Try these on for size:

American Apparel, Baby Rib Basic $15

    James Perse Casual T, $44

    Pulcini, Striped Tee $11

    Resort 08: Stella McCartney

Posted June 29, 2007 by valentina
Found in: Runway Review, Women's Fashion

For Resort 08, everyone’s (or at least my) favorite Brit designer sent out a collection marked by fine tailoring, feminine silhouettes and amazing subtlety. Even the metallics were super refined and spectacular at the same time–Stella makes such dichotomies possible and stylish. Flowing lines, muted color, florals, metallics, ruffles, high-waisted pants, and a healthy dose of black made a showing.

Ella Moss, Old Price=$108 New Price=$75.60 at Shopbop

Ruffles or a bandeau? It’s your choice, and these are both Ella Moss. Yellow, of course, as I’ve said time and time again is the color of the summer and for good reason. These striped bikinis scream “sun and fun”, don’t they? If you’re brave enough to sport one, you’ll be a bathing beach beauty in one of these teeny bikinis.

It’s official, Drew Barrymore is the new face of Gucci jewelry. This comes right on the heels of her CoverGirl deal–I guess you can be the face of lots of products. And Drew’s got a long history of representing. Who can forget the Guess ads from her wild child days?

Yikes! According to Shoewawa, British shoe label Irregular Choice, the makers of such out-of-the-box creations as these:

    black fringe heels

will be launching a clothing line. I can’t even imagine what the minds at Irregular Choice will come up with, but luckily a week long sneak preview of the the collection will be featured on their website starting July 1! I can’t wait to see bits, baubles, and doodads that are sure to be affixed to every piece. God bless ‘em.

Oh, and if you like what you’ve seen here and you’ve just gotta have it, click on the pic.

    Peep Toe Wedge

    metallic silver wedge
    Arturo Chiang, $47.98 (was $98)

Okay, so I know this trend has been thriving for a while now, but I’m so blown away with the many cute and glamorous peep-toe wedges out there.  A patent leather, metallic or otherwise fancy wedge with a peep toe is a chic and welcomed alternative to death defying heels that make you wish you were at home in your jammies watching reality television instead of painting the town (and enduring crushed toes and aching arches–ouch!).

I love ‘em with shorts, skirts, jeans and dresses. A little height and zero pain is always a good thing, no?

    Here’s the Wedge Roundup:

    red patent leather peep toe
    Magdesians, $95.95

    blue and white striped wedge
    Rock & Republic, $355

    pony hair gray wedge
    Dolce Vita, $99.95

    white perforated wedge

    Gabriella Rocha, $74.95

    Michael Kors Big Valley Bag

Michael Kors Big Valley Bag North/South Tote, Old Price=$368 New Price=$259

This Michael Kors tote is simple and luscious. I’m not much into “It” bags– I prefer classic purses like this because they can handle the long-haul and earn their keep until they’re vintage. That’s the type of stuff that Michael Kors does best. I’m into the brass details, which keep it from being boring and the fact that it has lots of compartments inside. I also love the buckles, but I’m a buckle freak, so that’s to be expected.

    Liz Claiborne Dies at 78

Posted June 27, 2007 by valentina
    Found in: Breaking News

Liz Claiborne, founder of one of the world’s most successful clothing companies, died from complications of cancer Tuesday. After working behind the scenes in the sportswear industry for 20 years, Claiborne became a superstar in the male-dominated fashion world of the 1970s by creating professional clothing for the legions of women entering the work force during that era. The Liz Claiborne company was the first business founded by a woman to make the Fortune 500 list, and when the designer retired in 1990 she did so as the number one maker of women’s apparel with $1.4 billion in sales.

Here’s a great Claiborne quote from a 1989 interview with Women’s Wear Daily:

I wanted to dress busy and active women like myself, women who dress in a rush and who weren’t perfect. But loving clothes, I knew clothes could do a certain thing for you from a flattering point of view. And I tried to bring good taste to a mass level.

    BET Awards: Kelly Rowland

Posted June 27, 2007 by valentina
    Found in: Celebrity Style

I know she could buy and sell me for lunch with her Destiny’s Child money and that I shouldn’t feel bad for her, but every time I see Kelly Rowland, all I can hear are the words to “Wind Beneath My Wings.” I picture Beyonce in a sparkly dress (much like the one she wore to the awards, minus the reflective belt) with a spotlight illuminating her, singing the line, “It must have been cold there in my shadow to never have sunlight on your face” to a teary-eyed Kelly Rowlands.

But enough about my crazy fantasies, Kelly doesn’t need any sympathy while wearing this little number. I love, love, love the neckline–it really works for her teeny tiny figure. I don’t even mind the fringe. Great legs. Great hair. Great mix of gold accessories with that raisin-hued dress.
