What to Wear: Holiday Travel Edition

I seriously love to travel. I get geared up for days to hit the airport or hop in the car for a road trip. Call me crazy, but I find it exhilarating. I mean, there are so many destinations to visit beyond our hometowns! And whatâ€™s more? I always break out the new fashions for my little vacations. You can travel in style, while still being comfortable. Itâ€™s an art to pull off this combination, but hey, thatâ€™s what I am here for. Need advice on what to wear on your holiday trip this season? Iâ€™ve got you covered.

On a planeâ€¦ OK. You cannot complain about most plane travel. Most of the time when you depart from the airport, itâ€™s just for a few hours. That is like a long business meeting or a college lecture. Not bad at all. So make sure you dress cute! Take a hint from the stars when you travel the skies. I love Jennifer Anistonâ€™s airport style: a crisp white button down, bootleg denim and a pair of heeled black boots. Itâ€™s casual, pulled-together and totally fabulous. Just make sure you layer. You can never anticipate the temperature of the plane. And those little vents donâ€™t do squat to circulate airâ€¦

In the carâ€¦ For the car, you should definitely dress a little more comfortable, especially if your trip exceeds more than a few hours. My favorite vehicle travel look is a pair of leggings, tall boots, an oversize sweater and some sweet aviators to block out that hazy fall glare. Youâ€™ll be cool and cozy.

By trainâ€¦ Traveling by train allows some freedom in your look. Itâ€™s a little roomier, so feel free to experiment. Wear your new bold jacket with a pair of jeans and a cute sparkly hat, or maybe a fun belted sweater-dress with some opaques or leggings. Both options are equally pretty.

Are you excited about holiday travel yet? Donâ€™t groan; think of it as a chance to play with some vacation fashion. What could be better than a break from everyday monotony and some genuine chances to rock new styles? Just donâ€™t forget your adorable luggage to compliment your gorgeous look. Happy travels!

Fashion Forward: Global Destinations for Shopaholics

Like any fashionista, I love to shop. I adore it. To me, itÂ’s more than a hobby. ItÂ’s practically a passion. IÂ’ve already given you my picks for places with the best deals, but I wanted to expand your shopping horizons a little as well.

Although currently my options are pretty limited, I have grand plans to one day take an around-the-world shopping vacation, toting bags of fantastic finds from the chicest foreign cities. WouldnÂ’t it be divine? I think so. So I have compiled a list of the top shop-spots on the planet.

Now, you may be well aware of the fabulosity on Fifth Avenue and can perhaps already navigate Rodeo Drive with some serious panache. ThatÂ’s why IÂ’m going international for this list of the best shopping destinations around the globe. When the United States isnÂ’t enough for a seasoned spender, itÂ’s time to extend the boundaries. Or why have limits at all? Let the whole world be your purchasing playground.

London
Check out the hip boutiques of Covent Garden and venture to Camden Market for vintage finds and up-and-coming design talent. DonÂ’t forget Topshop for heaps of affordable fashions, and remember to get lost in Harrods at least once.

Buenos Aires
Find Armani and Cartier in high-end Recoleta, browse the streets of Calle Florida while fighting the crowds to score precious pieces in the vast array of shops, and then run over to Palermo Viejo for art-deco creations and some unique jewelry. And do not leave Buenos Aires without a fantastic leather find. The quality there is legendary.

Paris
No list would be complete without mention of the fashion capital. Le Marais is the place to start and end your shopping adventure. With the most dazzling window displays, youÂ’ll be drawn into every store. Then when you can hardly hold onto your purchases any longer, take a walk down Rue du Faubourg St-HonorÃ© and Avenue Montaigne to see the haute-couture labels. Just try not to drool too much.

Milan
If your goal centers on a location dripping in designer merchandise, then Milan is your city. ItÂ’s an Italian gold mine for sophisticated and chic pieces. 10 Corso Como is a stylish boutique stocked full of the best shoes, bags and clothing, and Via Monte Napoleone boasts labels like Dolce & Gabbana, Missoni, Prada, Versace and Valentino. Once you get there, it will be nearly impossible to tear yourself away.

Tokyo
Like an amped-up NYC, Tokyo is home to some serious shopping havens. Head to Ginza to pick up a watch or handbag at Wako, and then to the narrow streets of the Shibuya District for department stores like 109 and Takashimaya Times Square, luxe labels and trendy shops. Also take note of the stylish young kids in Japan. Their futuristic fashion and play on color is something to marvel at.

Copenhagen
While this Danish city isnÂ’t traditionally noted for its fashionable sensibilities, they definitely exist in downtown. Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Marc Jacobs are housed in the shopping district, and you can saunter over to Â“Fashion StreetÂ” for under-the-radar labels.

So if you ever get the chance to check out these cities, start at these shopping havens. TheyÂ’re worth their weight in gold. Or at least, theyÂ’re worth their weight in fabulous finds.

Casual Comfort for the Plane

In the tabloids, I feel like I see celebrities looking fabulous no matter where they are. ItÂ’s always, Â“Stars, theyÂ’re just like us!Â” but no normal person looks as good a celebrities look all the time. For example, they often show celebs as they go to the airport or as they are leaving from it, and in those photos the celebrities are totally dressed up and looking stylish. I even saw a photo of the Kardashian sisters last week in which it appeared as though they had all coordinated outfits for when they left the airport. They were all wearing green khaki, white, and black, but each in a different way. And the end result was that they all looked fabulous, despite having just gotten off a long flight.

But whatÂ’s a regular girl to do? ItÂ’s hard to look good when youÂ’re flying, as youÂ’re already stressed and uncomfortable in too close together seats. But there are options better than just wearing sweatpants and calling it a wash. Here are some key tips on putting together the perfect outfit for a long flight:

Think first about your shoes. Though some women might insist on wearing heels, in truth itÂ’s just not a good idea for a long flight. So take a lesson from Lady Gaga, who actually fell while wearing heels in Heathrow Airport (as well as wearing, I might note, leather chaps and a mesh bodysuit), and stick to a more walkable shoe. A simple flat, such as either a ballet flat or a low boot, works best for the airport because itÂ’s comfortable and easy to take off in the security line.
DonÂ’t wear jeans. Though it may seem like a good idea Â– jeans are easy and simple Â– ultimately, they are never as comfortable as you would have hoped theyÂ’d been. So pick something more comfortable, like leggings or even jeggings if you really want the look of jeans. Your skin will thank you for it.
Remember that it gets cold. I feel like I always end up freezing on a long flight and there are never enough airplane blankets to go around. So even if itÂ’s hot at your destination, remember to bring a warm sweater. Another idea is to bring a large scarf/shawl. This works well because it can be used to keep your warm if youÂ’re too cold, but it also works quite well as a makeshift pillow.

Las Vegas Vacation Style

I just went to Las Vegas, Nevada for the first time this past weekend. The weather was warm and the people were fabulous Â– fabulously dressed that is. During the day and at night, the people in Las Vegas dress up to match their over-the-top surroundings. Here are my tips on what to wear on a Las Vegas vacation:

During the day, the women all looked super cute while displaying a big variety of body shapes and sizes. Perhaps the most popular look I witnessed in Vegas was women wearing slightly flowy tops with shorts. The tops often had a soft look to them and summerÂ’s tribal trend was in full force.

This top, called the Native top from Guess for $59.99 would be perfect to wear over shorts. Particularly, white was the color of choice for shorts in Vegas. In fact, white clothing was popular for all occasions, probably due to a combination of the heat and the fact that it was Memorial Day.

Also during the day, women wore tons of sweet sundresses in a bunch of fun colors and patterns. For example below, this awesome purple Two Suns Tank Dress by Insight for $52.00 would have fit right in with the stylish crowd. The pretty pattern and color make this dress classic for the daytime, but the full front-zipper adds the wow factor that makes Vegas the city it is!

In addition to these cool outfits, every woman in Las Vegas was wearing high heels all the time. Whether day or night, women wore their heels. Aside from just the basic, sandal-style heel, I saw a lot of cool peep-toe booties, which have been popular this summer. As shown above, these Diane Booties by Lilita for $52.45 are an inexpensive way to take part in this trend. These booties come in a fun crocodile print and have a stylish side buckle.

At night, the women in Las Vegas truly showed their best in their going out attire. Women have their hair done, full make up on, and their nails painted. At nightclubs and lounges in Vegas there is a very strict dress code, so women definitely tried to look good. Most went out in slinky, tight nightdresses, but I did see a few women who rocked the tight skirt and looser top combination. For a fun nighttime dress, look for something in a fun, but muted color to make you stand out, such as the dress pictured above: the Cherrywood Mini Dress by Quicksilver for $66.00.

A Woman with Baggage

So thisÂ upcoming week, I will be leaving out of town for business and for pleasure.Â The first trip will be with some old friends of mine. We will be taking a relaxing visit to San Diego. Besides some quality time spent with the girls, we will be visiting a friend’s new home that she purchasedÂ (we are definitely excited: she just joined the “honeymooners” or shall I say “wifey” club). Since this is a weekend trip of road travel, I must pack light and make sure there is enough room in the trunk for others. My travel bags will most likely consist of a small roller luggage and a toiletry bag.

My next trip within the next few days will be out of state for business. It is necessary toÂ pack more, leaving far from home requires all of my basic needs (without having to borrow or buy) and definitely more clothing options: especially if I don’t have my stay scheduled, I don’t know what to expect (extra day and night outfits are required for both casual and professional occasions). Packing is an emotional moment for me, and I never want to miss out on bringing something that might be needed.

It is crucial that we pack just enough to fit in our travel bags without over doing it. Of course, the length of your stay will determine yourÂ the sizeÂ of your baggage. Since I will be staying for a couple days, and do not know what to expect, I will choose a medium sized luggage and carry on bag for flying.

I make sure that IÂ always buyÂ affordable luggage that makes a statement. My goals are to look fabulous and like a well-traveled lady and to make sure that my luggage is easy to spot. One thing I hate most is when your bags are amongst many others, they end up blending in all together and get lost. Searching through tags and anxiously waiting at a baggage claim gets annoying. Most travelers purchase black bags because it “matches” everything, and it is a classic look. Think outside of the luggage… travel with a distinct bag that can be spotted from afar. Having others become familiar with your bags of such character often helps you get yours much quicker to. So get with it, and become a woman with baggage; travel in style and become a unique explorer of your own.
