I often find it difficult to find the right pair of boots either because they don’t fit on my calves (too big or too small) or they come up too high (having short legs means a lot of knee-high boots literally hit me right at the knees instead of right underneath so it makes them awkward to walk in).

I tend to try on several boots and order a bunch online and then decide which ones to keep (gotta love free shipping and returns!).  When buying boots online, always make sure to measure the length and opening you are needing before buying them.  Most websites will give you the measurements of the boot shaft height as well as the opening of the boot.

• BCBGeneration Women’s Easton Knee-High Boot – I like boots with a little bit of embellishment and love the little bow detail on the back.  These look like a great boot to go with jeans or pair it with tights and a dress.
• Kenneth Cole REACTION Women’s Super Chic Boot – I think that a suede slouchy boot is the perfect fall boot.  Not only are they the perfect casual, go-with-everything boot, they are quite comfortable and you don’t have to worry if the boot fits your calves perfectly or not.
• Steve Madden Women’s A-Jolene Knee-High Boot – I just love gray boots.  They are a little bit more unexpected than your regular black or brown boots, but pair with your outfits just as easily.

• MICHAEL Michael Kors Women’s Veronica Boot – A boot like this is definitely better paired with skinny jeans or a slim pair of pants.  With the buckle detail and the slightly slouchy shape, you can let them stand out against your outfit.
• Nine West Women’s Jaelynn Boot – A great classic-looking boot.  I like the small buckle that gives it a little modern twist.  I can definitely see these worn with dresses and skirts at the office.
• Dolce Vita Women’s Calinda Boot – Being that I always love tall shoes, boots with a platform front are great for gals like me who love gaining a little bit of height with their shoes.

Now that I’ve found a pretty good selection, the hardest part is deciding which ones to keep!

1. Aren’t the Kate Spade ones so cute with the bow and chain detail?  I think if paired with opaque black tights and a dress, you would have a great fall outfit!

2. I am loving the color of the See by Chloe booties; it just reminds me of the colors of the changing leaves.  These would look great with a  pair of skinny  jeans and a chunky sweater.

3. I’m loving the idea of a wedge bootie like this one from Steve Madden.  The color is also great for fall and is a perfectly fresh neutral alternative to black.

If you are on the short side like me (I’m 5’2″) and have short legs, some booties don’t work as well because they can cut you off at the ankle and make your legs appear even shorter.  So, to solve this, I try to stick to booties like these three below that are cut more around the ankle to give you the look of the bootie but with a more flattering cut to your leg.

4. I love the stud detail of the Isola bootie.  Sometimes you just need black booties, but the stud details kick it up a notch!

5. I think leopard print booties are the cutest thing and can really amp up your outfit.  I would pair these with some skinny jeans, a slim fit black sweater and scarf.  Easy, but super cute!

6. I actually have a pair of purple booties that I adore and wear often.  You wouldn’t think that purple would be an easy color to wear, but I actually find myself wearing mine a lot.  They’ve taken the place of my black booties many times and look great with slim black pants or jeans.

First off, my “splurge” picks!  I am loving the low buckle of the YSL mary janes as well as the pretty color that is great for fall!  Pair these with black tights and they will stand out even more!  The black Prada pumps are just a perfect mary jane pump, and I especially love the platform which gives you a bit of extra height, but are still comfortable to walk in.  The Miu Mius are the perfect shade of blush/nude and I love that these ones have a bit more of a pointy toe, which seems to be making a comeback this season.

And now, my “SAVE” picks, which are all around $100.  Don’t you love the color of the Aldo pumps?  It’s such a pretty jewel tone, and these shoes would be the perfect pop of color if worn with a black dress or even under black pants.  The Vince Camuto are a great “look for less” version of the Prada pumps above, don’t you think?  And, lastly, I am loving the cranberry suede mary janes!  It’s such a pretty and unexpected color.  I can imagine you’d get a lot of compliments wearing these!

Normally when I dress, I do not channel the “total girlie-girl” look. I like edge. I like outfit imperfections. So if I’m going to wear a flower in my hair, rest assured I’ll also be wearing combat boots. Or if I’m rocking a pretty floral frock, expect a fedora to go along with it. I just can’t help it. I can’t OD on ensemble-sugar. I need to throw a little spice in there, too!

However, there is one look I love to wear that’s unabashedly girlie–the one exception to my “edge” rule. It’s a fail-safe summer combination: A little flirty dress and a pair of wedges. I am a little obsessed.

Wedges were all over the spring runways, and have been in oodles of stores, as well. And I’d be lying to you if I said I haven’t picked up a few pair for myself… they’re just so versatile!

Black Pumps. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. There is nothing more classic and timeless than a good pair of black pump heels. They are essential! These shoes can take you  from board meeting to happy  hour in no time and can be dressed up or down for any occasion. If you are to only own one pair of heels, it’s these.

Tall Boots. Eventually, the weather cools down and a simple pair of pumps or flats won’t cut it. Bundle your feet and legs up with a great pair of tall boots you can use throughout fall and winter. A pair of casual brown boots (think cowgirl) and dressy black boots (for work) are great options.

Athletic Shoes. Ok girls, let’s face it. While athletic shoes may not be our top choice for fashionable footwear, they are necessary. What if that cute guy you keep running into on the elevator asks you out and, as it turns out, he’s all about the outdoors? Girl, you better be ready to trek with a comfortable pair of kicks, because your slingbacks won’t help you here!

Ballet Flats. Sometimes it’s nice to give your tootsies a rest. Take a break from high heels with a comfortable pair of ballet flats! Every girl should at least own two; dressy flats you can wear to work or on date, and casual flats you can wear everyday with jeans and a tee.

Show-Stoppin’ Heels. Need I say more? Probably not, but I will. There’s no better way to put on the sass than with a sexy pair of strappy heels or outrageous pumps – honestly! I don’t know what it is about them, but they can really put more kick into your step and more swing into your hips. These come in handy when you want to have a fun night out with the girls or are feeling extra flirty on a date.

Lounging shoes. For those lazy days at home when you don’t feel like doing much of anything but enjoy some peace and quiet, a comfy pair of lounging shoes are a must. Pick up a cozy pair of slippers or, if you like to give your toes some breathing space, a comfortable pair of flips flops work just as well.

Shoes are great. Wait – they’re fabulous! With so many gorgeous styles from which to choose, it’s hard not to get carried away. Although I strive to wear heels more often, I personally love my collection of ballet flats. They are practical and stylish! I love that I can just slip into them and run out the door – literally! Heels just make me happy.

If you are not a heel lover, then I am here to profess my heel obsession and subsequently convince you why you should be, too. These shoes really are all that. Read on to find out why I think so, and why I think you should believe it, too.

Um, who doesn’t love that click-clack noise? Does anyone remember that scene in “The Devil Wears Prada” where Andy criticizes the sound of the Runway employees’ heels in the lobby? I so could NOT relate to that. I love the click of a heel on cement, tile or hardwood. Seriously. I instantly assume some high-powered career woman like Anna Wintour is going to walk by in all her fashionable glory. And that’s good news, friends, not bad. Who wouldn’t want to exude a little of Anna’s power? (I said, a little…)

Heels give you instantly good posture. Have you noticed that when you slide on a pair of high heels, you automatically stand straighter and feel more confident? Call it the magic touch or simply a great invention, but heels have the power to make you look a little more fabulous. Good posture goes with any outfit.

Bonus! They also immediately tone your calves, sans exercise. Another benefit of the heel is that you don’t have to tone your calves; the shoe will do it for you. Walking in stilettos is the only thing you need for killer legs with definition. Now, I am not advocating you give up working out (don’t do that!), just that maybe you won’t have to do quite so many heel raises next time you hit the gym. Cool, huh?

There are millions of styles… well maybe a few less than a million. But still a lot. Maybe you’re a wedge girl. Maybe you like platforms. Maybe you can work a stiletto like Carrie Bradshaw or an over-the-knee heeled boot like Kim Kardashian. Or maybe, you adore and own all these styles. Seriously, the sky’s the limit. Try out tons of pairs!

Heels will polish any ensemble. Even basic jeans and an oversize tee. In fact, I love heels with basics. All you need for a bona fide gorgeous look is a pair of red stilettos to rock with your rolled up boyfriend jeans and simple white shirt. It’s a look that stuns, and one that will have heads swinging in your direction all day long.

So, yeah. I love me some heels. How about you? Convinced?

No matter what is going on with the rest of your look, your shoe choice can easily add a little fabulosity to yourensemble. So for this fall, make sure you have the best. Here are my picks for the three must-have shoes of the season. Crank up your confidence with these sets of kicks.

Lace-up boots. Menswear extends from the runways into the streets this season, and lace-ups are a perfect play on this trend. These shoes look awesome in both black and brown—the black is definitely the more classic take with a hard edge, but if you are looking to soften the effect, opt for brown. I have the latter, and I love them! The masculinity of the boot will play nicely with a few feminine elements. Try pairing these with a super-feminine dress or skirt—one that’s lacy or printed will work well. Toss on a boyfriend blazer and set your hair in effortless waves for a flawless combination. The contrast of the boyish pieces and girlie frills are fantastic fall fare.

If you want to try the seasonÂ’s most cutting edge shoe on for size, then oxfords are your go-to style (also called spectators or saddle shoesÂ…they have an array of names, just to be clear). They come in a ton of different variations, and all of the options are chic. From traditional black and white to patterned styles, cognac to brights, you will want these in every shade imaginable. The comfort is also unparalleled. Oxfords are like the sophisticated version of the tennis shoe. Keep it low-key when working this look. While transitioning into fall clothes, pair your oxfords with a cute floral skirt and cardigan. When the weather gets colder, just add tights or switch the skirt for skinnies. Simple.

Clogs. I know, I know. If you would have told me about this trend last year, I would have laughed uncontrollably. But clogs are back. And they are—dare I say it?—extremely cool. When purchasing a clog for the season, I would keep it relatively basic. A pair in black or brown with studding, like the wonderful clogs from Steve Madden, is definitely the way to go for an understated-yet-glam vibe.

So don’t be caught in boring footwear this autumn. Pick up these three shoe options and you’ll be looking stylish all season—from head to perfectly adorned foot.
