Trend 1: Look-at-me nails. According to the duo, sheer colors were so out. Well, not only were these girls wrong, but they were dead wrong. In fact, the whole neon nail color with funky designs concept didn’t pick up stride at all. Not even Lady Gaga went there. And that’s saying something.

Trend 2: Supersized braids. While this hit the runway and some daring celebs like the Olsen Twins and Diane Kruger, they didn’t really catch on as a whole. The effortless pull-back look has always been more in fashion (à la Academy Awards goddess looks), but nothing like the Glam girls suggested. Well, ladies, there’s always next year.

Trend 3: Bright allover eye shadow. Sure, the tone was lighter this year compared to the black Taylor Momsen-esque concepts of years past, with bronze-colored tones like Maggie Gyllenhaal rocked and soft yellows like Cameron Diaz, but no one dawned neon brights, aside from drag queen James Franco on the cover of Candy magazine.

Trend 4: “Bumped up” hair. OK, so they were being bombarded with Bump It ads on TV and were sick of the pulled-back bump, but that’s no excuse. Anyone who donned this crazy look was either named Snooki or Bedhead. Honestly, I don’t want volume overtaking my face. The closest these ladies’ predictions came to meeting reality? Salma Hayek, and for a woman with such natural volume, she stayed surprisingly straight-edged for most of the year.

Trend 5: Bright ’n’ cheery. In other words, two “beauty specialists” though the ’80s were coming back. Look, just because MJ died, it doesn’t mean we were going to stake a claim in his most powerful decade. Nice try, though.

Trend 6: Ribbons as hair accessories. I don’t believe it… I think… I think they got one! Thanks to youthful designers like Zac Posen and the ever-daring styles of our favorite Upper East Siders on “Gossip Girl,” ribbons were kind of in this year. They offer a fresh look and are cute to boot.

Trend 7: Top-knot buns. Oh, ladies. I was kind of pulling for you on this last one.

Well, maybe they’ll have better luck predicting for 2011. What do you guys think? Did the stylists hit closer to home than I think?

Those tees that look like they are a thousand years old. Seriously. If it looks like it came from your mom’s hippie days because it is so worn, dingy and old, then for the love of fashion, PLEASE trash this piece. I beg you.

Anything with a Disney character or Hello Kitty on it. Hello Kitty. Minnie Mouse. Nemo. These characters are super adorable! I will totally admit that. But they were also created to entertain 4-year-olds. If you are not an elementary school student, then this look is not for you. Please avoid it at all costs.

Those really puffy snow vests. I just don’t understand the appeal. Sure, this winter apparel item is probably totally cozy, but it also makes a person look too wide on top and completely disproportionate. Invest in an amazing pea coat or a bomber instead. Equally warm, way more chic.

Jumpsuits. Need I say more? I really don’t even have to elaborate, as I am sure you know what I’m thinking. These pieces can make the skinniest, most stylish celebs look like a train wreck. The jumpsuit is just so rarely tasteful that I advocate abandoning this trend for good. Unless you have a personal stylist who can help you wear it exactly right, then I wouldn’t do it.

I found this cute tulle ballerina-style skirt at Forever 21 when I headed in there this weekend for a little shopping mayhem. It’s crème and has tiny jewels embedded into the skirt. It’s utterly adorable, in my biased opinion. Since I had nothing like it, I decided that I would purchase this little wonder (since it is obviously more of an investment, right?) I envisioned wearing it with a cute cardigan and leggings, or even with my lace-up boots to add the necessary casual edge. I love contrast. If there were any doubts in my mind beforehand, contextualizing it in outfit-format made the buy seem that much more appealing. I was sold.

I took it up to the checkout counter and handed it to the sales associate, who proclaimed it was adorable.

See! I knew it, I thought.

“Is this just for fun, or is it for Halloween?” he asked.

I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing came out. WaitÂ… what? Did he just call my purchase costume-y?

“It’s definitely for fun!” I told him, somewhat defensively. “I love wearing overly-girlie stuff like this.”

He smiled. “That’s great! I think people really need to take more risks with fashion.”

Suddenly, all was well again. See, once you put it like that, it doesn’t sound so bad. But this little conversation got me thinking. Do I really take risks with my style? To me, Lady Gaga is a fashion risk-taker. My ballerina-style skirt? Not really in the same realm of risqué clothing choices.

But when I thought about it more, I realized that I do actually take style risks, however small they may seem. To me, itÂ’s any time you go against the norm in your fashionable ways; wear something unique, rock an outfit that takes you out of your comfort zone or adds in an unexpected twist.

I think itÂ’s fully healthy to take these style risks, so I do. I think you should, too. Maybe itÂ’s working that crazy mixed-prints trend thatÂ’s oh so fun. Or perhaps itÂ’s wearing sequins to brunch. Or it could even be pairing your ballerina skirt with tough lace-ups. Just take a risk. Even a little one will broaden your style horizons.

When a client of a Japanese clothing company, Sanna’s wished for jeans that sat lower than her hips but will be snug enough not to require constant pulling up, Designer Sandra Tanimura let her creative juices flow and came up with low risers held up by bikini strings-voila!  Bikini jeans were born!

The style has become quite a hit in Japan and is all set to take off in Europe.  Will United States be next?  While the cut might flatter a stick thin figure, won’t a simple belt be a more flattering and reasonable solution for normal women, some wonder?  Then of course there is the case of not wearing under wear.  How many of us will be comfortable with that?

Lately I have noticed a lot of influences from the 80′s that are coming back such as neon colors, the whole sneaker culture, big hair and more. Even though this fashion style is clearly from the 80′s they still look modern and look good on many of us. On the other hand I’m not to cheerful on the return of shoulder pads. That look is so outdated plus I don’t think anybody suits this look, not even Victoria Beckham!

What the heck!?  I love just about everything you have to offer, American Apparel.  The quality of your clothing is awesome & so SOFT!  Why, why, why did you decide this swimsuit would be flattering…on anyone.  Not to mention the morbid tan lines that come from wearing such random designs.  I immediately thought of Borat when I saw this swimsuit.

The design is cute & it doesn’t look like you decided to stretch your undies over your head!  I suppose I wouldn’t mind the weird tan lines from wearing this swimsuit.

So PETA really, really doesn’t like the Olsen twins and their wardrobe decisions.  The animal rights group known for their zealous protests made their distaste very clear this week when they unveiled their Meet the Trollsens website.   The whole site is dedicated to chastising Hairy-Kate and Trashley Trollsen (as they call them)  for wearing fur.

The site has a lot of features, including a section where you can dress the twins up in bloody fur jackets, dresses, purses, and hats.  You can also send the Olsens a letter, urging them to stop wearing fur and selling it in their clothing line The Row. And if that’s not enough for you, there’s also a myspace dedicated to the Trollsens. Pretty intense.

Oh my.  I don’t know what to say about this.  I personally don’t wear fur, but I’m not officially against it since I wear leather and eat meat on a daily basis. However, I do sympathize with PETA’s cause and marvel at their publicity machine.

More than anything, I think the whole thing is kind of funny, and I bet the Olsens think it is too.  What do you think?
