I always like to look at the bright side of things and the bright side of these freezing cold temps? The fun accessories we get to wear and add to our outfits! I’m all about keeping warm, but if I can keep warm with cute accessories, then I’m much happier that way.  I am always a sucker for bows, and I love winter accessories with bow accents. Here are a few of my faves…

1. ASOS Bow Crochet Neckwarmer – What a great alternative to a scarf! I love this little neckwarmer, which would look great with any winter coat.

2. Echo Tech Touch Gloves – I don’t know about you, but I’m always checking my iPhone and I hate when I have to take off my gloves to use it. These gloves with the special little “tech touch” built in take care of that problem and are so neat!

3. Tarnish ‘Knitted Bow’ Scarf – A scarf that is tied into a bow?

I love fall and winter accessories. As soon as I feel a chill in the air I pull out all of my scarves and hats that had been put away for the summer and put them to good use! It’s also an easy way to accessorize a simple outfit. You’ll often find me in jeans, boots and a sweater throughout the fall, so when I add in brightly colored scarf or a fun hat, it instantly makes the outfit a little bit more fun and more “me” with just these small additions.

Here are my top picks from Forever 21, which is my favorite place to pick up super cute accessories at fantastic prices!

Soft Open Knit Scarf | Colorful Zigzag Scarf | Colorblock Leopard Print Scarf

Sometimes just a solid scarf is all you need, and when I go with solids, I like them to be bigger so I can wrap them around a few times. The zigzag and leopard print scarf are two great ways to wear prints if you aren’t as big on wearing prints in your clothing.

Colorful Metallic Beret | Bow Accent Beret | Plaited Knit Beanie

These soft beret type hats are my favorite to wear. They look great on and aren’t too tight that they mess up your hair when you have to take it off. I often smush one into my purse and pull it out whenever I need it. Instant warmth and style all in one!

I think my vision of accessories expanded a little bit when I discovered the street style blog, The Sartorialist (I will forever sing its praises). This was about two years ago, and all of a sudden I was exposed to the fashionable crowd in NYC; the girls outside shows, shopping in Manhattan and multi-tasking while hailing a cab. I’ve always been rather enraptured by the Big Apple, so it’s not shocking I fell head over heels for the style these ladies continuously rocked. The shoes, the clothes, the accessories…

But between the Mulberry bags and Chanel sunglasses, I noticed some different kinds of accessories that I still find chic to this day. They may not be traditional, but they say a lot about a girl. Do you agree?

The Starbucks cup. I am one of those people who needs a hot drink in the morning. (I used to drink coffee, but now I love my Starbucks Chai Tea Lattes. Less calories, less bouncing-off-the-walls caffeine. Yay!) So, I like seeing a Starbucks cup clamped in another girl’s hand. It is like the one thing that binds us all together; me in Michigan and the stylish folk in NYC. We all need some morning energy. It’s stylish.

The iPhone. Or Android… or smart phone… it’s the accessory that proves you’re connected. It says a lot: I’m serious about my work, I like to keep up on the hottest news, and I need to have my friends just a phone call away. I have my phone (rather, my email, contacts, text messaging and internet) strapped to my hip at all time. It’s like an extension of my hand. How about you?

The shopping bags. These are no doubt my favorite non-traditional accessory. Whether it’s a high-end designer bag or a quick purchase from Sephora, shopping bags are totally chic and the sign of a true fashion maven. When I look around and see bags in hand, I can tell a lot about a girl’s style from what she’s hauling. If it’s H&M, she’s cutting-edge but knows how to save. If it’s J.Crew, she’s a sophisticated prepster. If it’s Gap, she’s a classic traditionalist. I love guessing what’s inside those bags, don’t you?

What do you think, dolls? Are there any strange items you think help make an outfit?

As much as I love clothes, I am much more an accessories girl. I can shop for shoes, jewelry and handbags for hours on end, and I sometimes spend more time picking out my accessories than I do my outfit! Here are the top three things that I’m currently loving:

1) Jewelry — Make a statement with the jewelry you wear! You can go big with a jeweled or layered necklaces, bold bangles or my favorite are big cocktail rings. My YSL Arty ring is one of my favorites, and it definitely makes a statement! When wearing a big necklace, try to keep your tops pretty simple and minimally detailed. A bold necklace needs to be the focus of the outfit.

2) Scarves — Don’t forget about scarves for the spring! Even though the sun is coming out, it’s still a bit breezy, and the best way to keep warm with a jacket (or paired with a jacket) is a lightweight scarf. If you’re used to just tossing a cardigan on to keep you warm, then try adding a scarf like this one around your neck. Not only will it keep you warm, it will also add personality to your outfit in an instant!

3) Bags — The brighter the color, the better! A bag is the easiest way to infuse color into your wardrobe. If you are not sure about wearing hot pinks or purples, then get a handbag in those shades and wear it with your black/white/gray outfits. Just wait. You’ll see how much more fun your outfit becomes! This Rebecca Minkoff bag is one of my favorites, and it comes in a ton of colors.

This season, just know that the bolder, the brighter, the better; so whatever accessory you prefer, don’t hold back. Let it stand out and make a statement!

I am sort of addicted to hats. It’s pretty much a running joke on my shopping trips. Inevitably, I will always gravitate toward shiny, new… hats. Yes, I know that’s weird, but hats are a little bit magical for me.

I have a hard time dealing with my hair. Sometimes, it just does not cooperate. It’s thick, wavy (verging on frizzy if the weather is humid) and entirely unruly if that’s how it feels like behaving that day. Sigh.

Hats are just my way of keeping locks in check. If my strands insist on flyaways and frizz, I simply toss on a hat. In fact, I would suggest you do the same. But, of course, there are a few tips to keep in mind when working head-wear into your look. Let’s talk about them. Three types of hats (for spring). Three outfits to wear them with (for spring).

The fedora. There is nothing more insanely cool than a fedora. I recently picked up a straw fedora from H&M for a measly $6.95. Steal, anyone? Of course! My outfit of choice? A fitted jean jacket, printed, maxi-dress and long, pendant necklace. A carefree look will match the low-key vibe of this hat. Just make sure the fedora is a neutral. It’s just an accent. Your dress should be the standout piece.

The wide-brimmed straw hat. This perennial beach favorite is a must-have for the warm weather. Wear this with a flirty, shirt sundress, wedge heels and colorful sunglasses. The innocence of this cute hat will match the breezy nature of the dress and punchy sunglasses. Oh, and wedges? The go-to shoes of the season. Buy a few–a neutral, an espadrille and a bright. You’ll be wearing them all spring, and all summer.

The pageboy cap. Perfectly worn-in pageboy caps are the way to go this season. How would I wear this look? With a cropped tee, a pair of cut-offs and gladiator sandals. An armful of bangles would also work some pizazz in with these great separates. Have fun with it!

It’s just that simple, folks. Hats for the spring and summertime? The best, easiest accessories out there.

I know that sounds ridiculous, but if you are going to be hooked on an accessory, scarves are the perfect extra to add into your style on a continual basis. Why? They are incredibly versatile.

DonÂ’t just use your scarf as a neck-warming instrument. Be innovative. There are so many other ways to wear it. Pick up a few amazing scarves in fun hues, different thicknesses and exciting patterns. Then, have fun with them. HereÂ’s how.

DonÂ’t just use your scarf as a neck-warming instrument. Be innovative. There are so many other ways to wear it. Pick up a few amazing scarves in fun hues, different thicknesses and exciting patterns. Then, have fun with them. HereÂ’s how.

Wear itÂ…

Around your neck, of course. The classic way is still relevant and forever fashion-forward. ItÂ’s cold out there in the fall, so tie a bright scarf around your neck for a little extra coziness and to draw attention to your gorgeous face. YouÂ’ll look chic and feel amazing too.

Tied in your hair. My personal favorite way to wear a scarf is tied in my hair. I use silk scarves as headbands for a cute look. Wear the band thick and tie a bow in the back at the nape of the neck. Whether your hair is up, down, braided or gathered in a low bun, you canÂ’t go wrong.

Hooked on your bag. Want to add a dash of color to your basic black bag this winter to spice it up? Tie a scarf on it! I like using patterned scarves for this. My favorite? A thin, black scarf with bright red flowers splattered across the fabric. Made up in a pretty bow, it always looks just right twisted around the handle of my purse.

As a belt. There are some great studded and sparkly scarves on the market this season, and they function wonderfully as waist-cinchers. Tie the thin scarf at the waist like you would a ribbon-belt. It will add a little glinting detail at the smallest part of your frame.

As a shawl-wrap. If you’re scarf is long, thick and oversize (I picked up a black and white one from H&M that fits this description, and I pretty much adore it), then you can use it as a jacket alternative on not-too-cold days. Drape it around your shoulders for an elegant outerwear option. It’s a great piece to take out shopping — easy to slide in your purse or wrap around your neck instead of holding onto a coat (a huge annoyance of mine).

Are you rethinking your scarves yet? With this many options, a few great ones are excellent investments this season.
