You guys, I am kind of sad award season is essentially over! All the glitz and glamour is nearly dunzo. But at least we can recap it one last time, right? Read on for my red-carpet Academy Award favorites, and a couple of more obsessions for the week.
Oscars Red Carpet. The Super Bowl of red carpet fashion took place Sunday evening, and there was no shortage of loveliness. But alas, I must choose favorites! Drum roll, please… Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton: Hands down, the best she’s looked all season! And I do adore Michelle’s quirky looks. This very-trendy peplum gown in bright coral was Oscar-worthy, but still 100 percent true to the My Week with Marilyn actress’s sense of style. Perfection. Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford: She wore a cape! On the carpet! In white! SO CHIC. Shut the front door, I love Gwyneth. People, this is how you work a red carpet. I don’t even care if some weren’t fans of her Tom Ford gown. It was a statement, and that’s what the Oscars are all about. Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen: I wasn’t sure I liked this dress at first. It’s embroidered pattern and dark hue is signature McQueen, but on Jessica? The girl who lives in pastels and simple silhouettes?? I did not know. But as the night wore on, it grew on me. Today, you can call me a big fan. Viola Davis in Vera Wang: Meryl Streep may have taken home the Best Actress Oscar, but Viola Davis looked like a winner on that red carpet. The emerald green of her Vera Wang dress played perfectly off her skin tone, and I loved her natural locks. She looked radiant.
Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter. Several weeks ago, I was gushing about Maybelline Baby Lips. I now have a new obsession: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter. I bought this on a whim, because I’ve seen all the advertising. (Revlon, execs: You should be proud. All the Emma Stone ads for Lip Butter finally wore me down. Bravo.) Guess what? I think I’m in love! All the bold color of a lipstick, all the shine of a lipgloss; it’s the perfect combination. I have a deep pink called “lollipop” and a light coral called “peach parfait.” Both are awesome. I may buy other shades… I highly recommend!
Ulta. For years, I was a “drugstore makeup only” girl. But as time has gone on, I’ve slowly been adding a few higher-end cosmetics into my routine. Why do I love Ulta? Because it’s wall to wall make-up, yes. But also because I can browse around and compare absolutely any kind of make-up, whether it costs $4 or $40. And that’s amazing! Some of my favorite things about Ulta? The vast array of anything NYX Cosmetics, the amazing selection of OPI nail polish (and tons of other brands, but especially my longtime go-to OPI!), and the way they put cute, travel-size stuff near the checkout. I know it’s just to force me into an impulse buy, but it’s always a beautiful, fun, fantastic impulse buy. Doesn’t that count for something? (P.S. If you’re headed to Ulta in the near future, take this coupon for $3.50 off a $10 purchase!)
What are you obsessing about this Monday?
