Happy Blogger Tuesday, sweet friends! I could not be more excited about today’s style treat. I always find outfits I love while surfing the blogosphere. But sometimes, I find an outfit that I just adore. Enter Alicia’s chic look.
Before we get to that, though, let me introduce this fab blogger! She’s the lovely lady behind Cheetah is the New Black (um, could I love that name any more than I do? Don’t. Think. So.). I am seriously crushing on this girl’s amazing fashion sense. She is never afraid to go bold and go right for the sartorial knock out. Here, it’s all about color and proportion. Let’s talk about why this look just works, and how you can steal a similar aesthetic yourself.
Stay neutral. The nude heels and similarly-colored tights and blouse work as a great, literal blank canvas. It would have been easy to opt for black, gray or another winter-y shade, but Alicia keeps it unexpected by sticking with an off-white for the cool weather. I love how cutting edge it feels!
Keep your statement piece your statement piece. Her skirt is the eye-catching item in this look, and Alicia doesn’t try to do too much with her other pieces. I love that she keeps everything else streamlined. Even her leopard-print bag works as a neutral when paired against her orange skirt with that unique shape. Let your statement item speak for itself. It doesn’t need any help.
Polish works. This tip is simple, but so ill-followed sometimes: Don’t clutter up your outfit. When in doubt, make like Coco Chanel and take at least one accessory off before leaving the house.
Proportion! Don’t be afraid of items with unique shapes, rock ‘em! Like Alicia’s skirt, you too can choose pieces with interesting silhouettes. It’s all about balance. When you have volume in the hips, make sure to define a waist. When you have a larger sleeve, make sure your top is fitted, or streamlined, through the torso. When you go dramatic in one area, balance it out by playing down another area.
A little red lip never hurt… And lastly, ladies, the red lip is in! As you should know by now. I know it can be scary, but think about shades other than that deep, fire-engine red. Alicia’s red lip is a little softer, a red-orange, and that makes it totally wearable. Don’t you think?
OK, kids. Time to check out Cheetah is the New Black (for about a zillion other outfit ideas). Warning, though. You will want to steal Alicia’s entire closet…
What do you most about Alicia’s look? Sound off!
