Want me to let you in on a closely-guarded secret of mine? I know you do. So here it is: I love sparkly things. Like, a lot. And also glittery things. And shiny things. Bet you never would have guessed that I like to stand out, especially when it comes to fashions that will look fabulous around the holidays…
I know, I know. It’s a total shocker. But sarcasm aside, I actually do love sequins, glitter, and… metallics!
Metallics are some of the hottest trends for the winter months. I’ve been totally obsessing over the amazing ways to wear the material in super-unconventional ways. So if you’re bored with your “classic” metallic shirts and handbags, think about breaking out these trendy ways to wear the look. For a holiday event, perhaps? (Answer: Um, yeah!)
A maxi skirt. Ekaterina Mukhina is sporting a gorgeous metallic pleated maxi skirt in the pages of Harper’s Bazaar this month, and it’s a trend you can definitely rock too. It should graze the floor in a pair of ankle booties. Pair with a simple black tee or neutral blouse to offset the shine of the skirt. You’ll be way too cool for school. (And yeah. Definitely too cool to talk to me on the street…)
With a motorcycle jacket. Glamour mag suggested wearing a pretty lil’ leather jacket with metallics this season. While I love the idea, I’m going to suggest a simple sway. Instead of rocking a feminine A-line skirt, try a metallic shift dress instead. It’s a party-ready option that’s easy to pull off.
As a cardi (or part of one). Metallic cardigans and cover-ups are a cool way to take a demure item and make it new and fresh. Try full metallic, or if you want a less-is-more look you can nab one with metallic accents (like pockets or buttons).
A blouse. Michael Kors showed a gorgeous gold metallic shirt this season, and I can see it going with everything from jeans to an equally sparkling black sequined skirt… oh, the options. A metallic blouse (like the one pictured to the left) is a must.
A belt. If you’re less enthralled by any of the above options, you can always add a little shine to your look with a belt. Choose a traditional gold or silver, and you’ll be able to wear it year after year. It will never go out of style.
What metallic piece are you dying to add to your wardrobe?

Amazing writing. I’ve bookmarked it without a doubt.
