Hello lovely friends! Are you looking out the window at gray skies and snow on the ground? That has been my reality for the past several days… and still, I am not ready to let go of the summer sunshine and pretty clothes. Is anyone else feeling the same?
Meet Francesca. The blogger who made me realize I can have it all during the winter: Cozy clothes and colors, too. And she has more fashion to show off as the author and style siren behind Le Kiss Kiss. Check out her amazing outfits… right after you check out the breakdown of her taste-of-summer winter look.
Don’t be afraid of color. I am in love with Francesca’s water-color skirt. It’s the perfect pop of brights against a neutral canvas. It works well because she isn’t trying to make it a centerpiece, it’s simply part of the overall feel of the look. Watercolors, solid brights in any shade and shimmer are all perfect ways to amp up your blacks, browns and grays this winter.
Layer, layer, layer. See that peek of a tee beneath Francesca’s sweater? Layer! It’s super pretty. Also, feel free to add leggings or tights into the mix if you’re currently facing the bitterness of winter in a cold-weather state.
Cute booties make the look. Heels would have dressed up this look too much. Flats aren’t always winter-appropriate. Regular boots would have distracted from the daintiness of the skirt. Cute booties? Perfection! Think about proportion. With a covered-up top, it’s great to show off your legs – and the best way to do that is by lengthening those gams with a wedge lace-up bootie.
Don’t be afraid of white. White is gorgeous in the winter… just do it right! A tiny piece like Francesca’s bag can be cold-weather appropriate (just keep your outfit and coat streamlined so it doesn’t look out of place), or an almost-creme white will also work well in the winter. Spring white is fresh and clean, whereas winter white is rich.
Think effortless, not overdone. The best way to pull off color in the winter is to make sure you’re not trying hard to pull off color in the winter, like Francesca. The skirt is the focus of the outfit, without being the overwhelming focus. The oversize cut of the sweater balances the look, the loose curls are laid-back and casual, and the booties are an unexpected, yet perfect, addition for the season. Your goal should be for the statement piece to meld into your outfit. If it screams too much, tries too hard, it won’t succeed. Think: effortless beauty.
Now, go check out Le Kiss Kiss and make friends with Francesca! I will see you back here tomorrow…
