The Question:
Dear Belinda,
Normally I only attend my family’s annual holiday gathering, but this year I have a few holiday parties written into my agenda. While I usually stick with a cozy sweater dress (I’m kind of obsessed with them) and tall boots, I really want to “wow” the crowds this year. What suggestions do you have for holiday party attire?
Thanks,
Emma
Belinda Says…
Dear Emma,
Sweater dresses and boots are great for this time of year but, when it comes to holiday festivities, you have several dazzling options! The holiday season is all about luxe fabrics and shimmering accents, so don’t be afraid to shine! Here are my holiday party season must-haves:
Sequined Top. First and foremost, before you buy anything else for the holiday season, get a hold of some sparkles. A sequin top gives you the perfect amount of holiday dazzle, without being overwhelming. Pair with a full skirt or sleek black slacks and pumps.
Satin Dress. I love the sleek and chic look of a pretty satin dress. Any other time of the year, satin tends to feel a little too over-the-top, but during the holidays it couldn’t be more suiting. Go for a classic LBD in satin, get bright and festive with a red dress, or go for a regal look in a jewel-toned satin frock.
Velvet Blazer. Staying warm during this winter season is prime, so why not do it fashionably? I love the elegance of a velvet blazer, especially when layered over some sparkle like a sequined top or dress. A lush black velvet blazer goes a long way, but if you want something with a little color, go for deep jewel tones like emerald, burgundy or even navy.
Black Pumps. There’s a reason why black pumps make just about every and any must-have list: They’re always spot-on! Whether you’re wearing a sequined top and slacks or a satin dress and velvet blazer, a pair of chic black pumps will compliment your look (they also look great with black tights!). My faves for the holidays? Black suede or black sequined pumps!
Wreath Necklace. I love a fabulous, sparkly wreath necklace for the holidays. It can really dress up a plain ensemble or add that final touch of “wow” to your look. Show off your necklace paired with a long-sleeved black crew neck top and full skirt or wear it with your LBD.
Getting dolled up is only half of the fun when it comes to holiday parties. The other half is being surrounded by great company and enjoying the spirit of the season. Happy Holidays!
