First of all… Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all have plans to eat, and greet, and have a wonderful day with family and friends. There’s still room for a little fun fashion, though, right?
The Fall/Winter shows revealed something pretty incredible this year: You can get away with wearing just about any color you want this season. And it’s sort of refreshing. Because why wouldn’t we want to brighten up the dismal days of winter with an outfit of sunny yellow?
Here are a few surprising colors you can wear as it gets ice cold — and how to pull them off. Have fun with this trend. Get out of your blacks, grays and tans.
Lemon. This yellow is bold and sunny, not pale and muted. So, if you’re going to work it, you have to go the full way. Try wearing a pair of wide-leg (or straight leg…both work!) yellow pants with a simple white long-sleeve tee. Or, you can go comfy with a great pleated skirt a la J.Crew and Karen Walker. Whatever you choose, it’s going to be awesome. And fun. Because lemon yellow can’t not be!
Orange. In the dead of winter, I personally think a rich, golden orange coat is the way to go. It looked completely fabulous at the Acne show, and would work with your classic jeans-and-a-sweater outfit. If you’re not about to invest in a topper, then maybe a blazer like at Peter Som would be ideal for you, or even socks peeking out over ankle boots. It can really be that simple to add a pop of color to your look.
Grape. J.Crew was all about lush color, and adorned a model with the most gorgeous loose wide-leg pants in a deep shade of plum. All you need is a light-hued sweater to complete the ensemble. If you’d rather keep it simple, bags and clutches in grape look heavenly, but wearable as a subtle dash of color.
Electric pink. Forget black, gold and silver as your traditional fancy Christmas colors. Why not break out a pretty-in-pink dress? It’s not as sweet and innocent as it sounds. This pink is hot, bold and made to stand out. Take a cue from Libertine, Jenny Kane and Badgley Mischka and get an electric pink dress. I’d choose a shift, or other short frock, and belt it with a bold black bow. [Check out even more colors over at Refinery 29!]
Will you wear color this winter?
