Meet Lula. This graphic design major and the stellar blogger behind Lulapalooza is here to show us how to rock some college style, and you know, just style in general. She’s fun, stylish, sassy and totally sweet.
Quick story: Lula so kindly followed up with me about her post today, because yours truly got overwhelmed and completely dropped the ball on a response back. She confessed she just wanted to make sure I got her email because her biggest fear is “coming off looking like a mean girl!” After agreeing that we indeed both have a complex about others thinking we’re cyber snobs, I couldn’t help but like her even more. She’s a total gem. You will love her. And her blog. And her style. So let’s talk about her amazing outfit, shall we?
Stop taking your outfit so seriously. I mean it. Stop worrying about whether or not it “goes.” Stop matching all your clothes. When you feel the overwhelming urge to have all your pieces align perfectly to form one perfectly perfect look, repress it! Your look should be cohesive, not matchy. Matchy is blah. Make like Lula and work in different colors–brown, dark green, navy, neutrals–as the core of your look. It will look perfectly mismatched. Love!
Do a blazer. Just not a cliche blazer. In college, you want to look stylish, not like you’re still stuck in your high school uniform. Blazers are good, but ditch anything that screams prep school. Lula’s chic blue blazer with white piping is on-trend… and totally from my favorite place on the planet: H&M!
Pop of color, for the win! A scarf will complete any look for fall, especially if it adds a bright spot to an otherwise neutral ensemble. Who says you have to tuck away all your pretty colors once summer’s over? You don’t. Red, yellow, orange, teal… scarves in every color of the rainbow work all year round.
“Nerd glasses,” y’all. I can’t praise the nerdy frames anymore than I already have in past posts. But in case you need more proof, check out how cool Lula looks in her glasses (which are just barely visible in this shot)! They make any outfit. Get yourself a pair, friends!
