Like Lanvin for H&M, Missoni for Target and Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s before it, the Versace for H&M collaboration has been crazy-anticipated since the day we all heard it was taking place. And I’m not gonna lie, y’all: I was dying to see what Donatella would create for my favorite store on the planet. The photos dropped today… and… well…
There are some chic looks! But I also have plenty of reservations. See a bunch of pieces from the collection here, and some ads for the collaboration here, then let’s talk about what’s going on.
Lovin’: It looks very Versace. The best thing? This collection, from the looks of it, appears like a Versace collection. Not a Versace for H&M collection. Many of the pieces look expensive, and stay totally true to Versace’s chic, fresh, forever-impressive aesthetic. For that, I have to give Donatella and H&M props.
Not Lovin’: A ton of the pieces are made for a size 0 or 2. On the other hand, I can’t see myself, a non-size 2, parading out of the house in a very short, shiny and tight leather shift. On the model? It looks ah-mah-zing. On me? Probably won’t have the same effect.
Lovin’: The details are gorgeous. The colors, geometric prints, studding and sparkles are perfect. The creators totally nailed the dresses, skirts, jackets and extras that I’ve seen in terms of the attention to detail.
Not Lovin’: The details are over-the-top. Some of the prints are probably a little too loud for our day-to-day wardrobe, however perfectly executed. A dress in neon green and blue, with heart prints, slits and fringe? …what occasion is that for again? Very cool, but unwearable.
Lovin’: There are some forever, classic items we can add to our wardrobe. The motorcycle jacket? Every girl is going to want it to throw over an LBD, jeans or a skirt. The scarves? Colorful, wearable and a great accent for a blazer or bag. The Little Black Dress with cut-out sleeves and patent-and-button pocket details? Seriously. Sign. Me. Up.
What do you think of the Versace for H&M collection? I’m dying to talk about it, so sound off, friends!
