Ask Belinda: Fall Office Fashion Trends

The Question:

Dear Belinda,

I’m glad fall is finally here because, truth be told, I was a little tired of the summer heat. To that end, I am also looking forward to dressing up a little more at work. What are your must-have items for the office this season?

Thanks,

Millissa

Belinda Says…

Dear Millissa,

I have to admit that I myself have been looking forward to slightly cooler weather and, even more so, fall fashion. There’s something so sophisticated about fall style that I can’t help but love, and what better place to be sophisticated than in the office? It’s like a match made in heaven! So, with that said, here are my absolute office must-haves for fall:

The Polka Dot Blouse. I am absolutely head over heels for this piece right now. Like Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2011 RTW collection, pick up a top with large polka dots for a trendy look that’s all classic. I particularly love a sheer polka dot top over a cami, tucked into your high-waist slacks or pencil skirt.

The Loafer Heel. Loafers are back and they’ve got a chic new look. These aren’t your librarian’s loafers anymore; for fall, grab a pair of high-heeled loafers for that perfect ounce of pizzaz. I personally love a loafer heel in a cognac or burgundy shade, but if you’re looking for something trendier, opt for a metallic loafer, similar to these from Alexander Wang, which are very of-the-moment.

The Midi Skirt. If there is a time and place to be modest, it’s definitely the office, and what better way to do so than with a lengthy skirt? Midi skirts have made such a huge come back since the 70′s and not only are they very on-trend, but most appropriate for the office! I like a pleated midi skirt paired with a simple white top and cardi cinched at the waist for a pulled-together office look.

Large Satchel. If you’re a working gal on-the-go, you know the importance of being prepared. For this, it’s extremely important to carry a bag that will hold your essentials — from tablet to makeup bag to business portfolio — while looking stylish. A large crossbody flap satchel is ideal for going hands free, so you can walk, talk and sip while heading to work.

Happy Stylin’!
