First order of business: Did anyone manage to score loot yesterday when Missoni for Target launched?! It was a bonanza. The racks looked more sparse than after a blowout Black Friday sale…
But yours truly actually dug through the wreckage and nabbed a few items! I bought headscarves and a hat that bear Missoni’s signature print. Sadly, most of all the clothes were gone–but no matter. Accessories really are the best, anyway. Which leads me to today’s order of business: Extras. Here are your need-to-know tips, lovelies!
1. Subdued clothes call for bold accessories. If you’re wearing a simple tee and jeans, then you really have to amp up your blank canvas with some pretty paint. I will be wearing my printed Missoni scarves with basic shift dresses, jeans and simple shirts. I’ve found that you should really invest in great basic clothes–trenches, jeans, boots, tailored pants–and then go crazy with accessories which are easy to buy inexpensively and cycle through as seasons change.
2. Extras should carry a sense of proportion, too. We stress proportion on this blog, and with good reason! If you’re wearing a voluminous top, your pants should be tailored and skinny. If you’re wearing wide-leg jeans, then make sure your shirt is fitted. With accessories, you should have the same sense of proportion. Big earrings and a bold necklace don’t work together–it’ll end up feeling like too much of a good thing. Same with a ring on every finger and a chunky bracelet–too many items close together clash. Try to space them out–like bold earrings, a simple band ring on one hand and a bangle on the other arm. See? Proportion.
3. Don’t match. Accessories do not have to match. Mix metals. Throw different colors into the outfit. Have a little fun with it. Matching all of your extras just says, “I’m too scared to take a risk.” And who wants to convey that with their look?
4. Think: Versatility. Just because it’s a necklace doesn’t mean it has to stay a necklace. Loop it around your wrist a few times for a strand-filled bracelet. This same concept can apply to other accessories, too. Have a scarf? Tie it in your hair, or around the strap of a bag for a fun accent. A flower hair clip? Make it a bracelet by clipping it on a hairband around your wrist… Seriously. This is your chance to get creative!
5. Spend and save. Here’s the rule of thumb: Has this item been around for many seasons, or does it consistently cycle back into style? If so, feel free to invest. If not, you should save your cash. H&M, Forever 21, Zara and Target have great extras, and you won’t feel the hit to your wallet.

I really like your site. Very good posts! Please continue posting such awesome content.
