Have you ever wondered what you can pull off at the office and what’s totally off limits?
A lot of fall’s prettiest pieces were a bit bold, so I know plenty of working women would balk at the thought of wearing such loud pieces. But I’d hardly want you to miss out on the best trends! After all, you do spend forty hours a week on the job. So here’s your office guide to risque trends, professionals. There’s always a way to downplay a trend for your workday without going overboard.
The colored pant. If you want to wear a red, pink, yellow or electric blue pant to the office, make sure it’s tailored. If the pants are skinny, you should wear a ballet flat. If the pants are wide-leg, wear a tasteful heel. On top, opt for a simple white or black tank and a neutral blazer, either in black or navy. A couple of bangles and single pendant necklace will keep focus on your statement piece, so all the items in your look are not fighting for attention.
The glittery top. With such a fun piece up top, you’ve got to keep it all business on the bottom. Choose a chic pencil skirt, wide-leg pant or A-line skirt in a dark hue. Then, cover up on top. I love a great belted cardigan or cropped blazer. Accessories should be almost non-existent. Your top has enough sparkle, so you don’t need any more bling. A structured bag is all you need.
Vivid prints. If you’re wearing a loud print, think about adding in a scarf that’s the same color as one of the hues in your dress or top. For the office, you shouldn’t mix prints. That’s overkill. Keep things classic, which means your accessories should be solid shades. For a heel, choose another color that’s complementary to the focal piece. And as a final note, if you can stay away from brights and lean more toward subdued shades–mustard instead of yellow, navy instead of cerulean, plum instead of violet–you should. You always want to look sleek, not distracting.
Red. I think it’s possible to pull off the red trend at the office, but we’ll have to modify the runway looks a bit! Do separates, a pant or top will work–but not both together. Pair with black. No other color works here, friends. Avoid wearing a dress, because you’ll come off as flashy. But one perfect red piece with a matching crimson pout… that will look fabulous, but still classy, for the office and on any other occasion.
Now, have a Happy Labor Day!
